The successful candidate will lead and contribute to the implementation of strategies for the discovery and validation of targets in ophthalmology. You will participate in a team of scientists to lead various activities, including target identification/validation and drug discovery using in vitro, in vivo, or omics methodologies to evaluate pharmacology in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders/experts. Emphasis is on the ability to perform hands-on work successfully, demonstrate scientific leadership skills, and interact in a team environment. The candidate will be responsible for setting up glial cell models to ID and validate targets for retinal diseases. Prior experience in ophthalmology, neuroscience, cell-based phenotypic assays, complex in vitro models (iPSC-derived cells, co-culture, organoids), multi-omics, or drug development is an asset. In addition, the candidate should have a strong track record of cross-functional collaborations along with excellent written and oral communication skills.

Be a trusted and expert scientific partner with experience and passion for the following:

  • Research and understand relevant target/disease biology; design and implement experimentation to validate hypotheses.
  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Active participation in program/project team meetings. Provide critical technical evaluation of program research activities. Issue technical reports for internal distribution.
  • Prepare presentations and represent the group to cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain awareness of current developments in the field through comprehensive reading and analysis of the literature and attendance at appropriate scientific meetings

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in biology or equivalent with experience in immunology, pharmacology, biochemistry, neuroscience, 2+ years of postdoctoral or industry experience preferred.
  • Experience in the fields of ophthalmology and Neuroscience is desired but not required.
  • Experience in a drug development setting desired.
  • Experience with in vitro and in vivo functional assays and the application of these techniques to pharmacological studies required.
  • Experience in bioinformatics/molecular target ID a plus
  • Strong scientific skills with the ability to collaborate with project team members.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Committed to integrity, accountability, transparency, scientific rigor and drive.
