Job Description
Allergan Aesthetics R&D, Biological Research is seeking a highly motivated and innovative candidate for the role of Senior Scientist I - In Vivo Pharmacology.
The successful candidate for this position will lead and contribute to the validation of and pharmacological characterization of targets in medical aesthetics by developing and utilizing in vivo models and molecular biology techniques for pharmacological characterization of therapeutic targets and testable hypotheses. She/He/They will independently conceive and implement novel experimental approaches to answer scientific questions in a discovery research environment. The candidate will participate in a team of scientists to lead and conduct various activities including target identification/ validation and drug discovery using existing and novel in vivo to contribute to project goals. Prior experience with in vivo rodent models is required. Prior experience with models of the skin and/or hair is highly preferred.
The candidate should be a highly motivated, hands-on experimentalist who is also capable to leading scientific projects and thriving in a multidisciplinary environment. Emphasis is on the ability to successfully perform hands-on work and lead discovery projects with minimal supervision, demonstrate scientific leadership skills and interact in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and implement in vivo models to support target validation and progression of early-stage targets in medical aesthetics.
- Routinely demonstrate scientific initiative and creativity in research and development activities.
- Research and understand relevant target/disease biology; design and implement experimentation to validate hypotheses and disseminate results and learnings through presentations to internal and external stakeholders across cross-functional teams
- Initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable and can be directly incorporated into research program.
- Demonstration of proficiency across a wide range of relevant technologies, especially complex in vivo rodent models.
- Train and mentor research associates when appropriate.
- Maintain awareness of current developments in the field through comprehensive reading and analysis of the literature, incorporating ideas into research activities to further project goals.
- Understand the competitive landscape and participate in the review and analysis of outside opportunities.
- Ability to conduct procedures, adhering to safety rules and expectations, which require lifting materials, movement of animals and equipment, and consistently standing for extended periods of time, to include walking and including but not limited to: grasping, squeezing, pushing, pulling, squatting, stooping, and bending.
- Ability to work a rotating schedule which includes weekend and holiday coverage.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- PhD (Cell/ Developmental/ Molecular Biology or equivalent education) and 0-3 years of postdoctoral or industry experience
- Extensive experience with complex in vivo rodent models, and ex vivo tissue analysis is required.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with in vivo xenograft models and cell culture is preferred.
Other Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proven theoretical and practical understanding of developmental/ molecular biology techniques and in vivo models is required, experience in skin biology and/or pharmacology highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge and technical expertise in molecular biology techniques, including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), qPCR, western blot, multiparameter flow cytometry, immunofluorescence
- Demonstrated ability to learn, understand and master new experimental techniques.
- Ability to work independently, while maintaining a collaborative mindset to work effectively within interdisciplinary research teams.
- Ability to multi-task, set goals and adhere to timelines.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and scientific writing skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrates effective use of software, such as Word, Excel, data acquisition systems, document management software, data analysis software, etc.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
