Job Description
Agilent is seeking an experienced R&D Manager to join our Lab Automation Hardware group. The ideal candidate will have a background as a design engineer and/or project manager in the robotics and automation market, along with proven experience in team leadership. This role reports directly to the Associate VP of R&D in the Mass Spec Division.
The R&D Manager, Lab Automation Hardware, is responsible for overseeing the overall operations within the assigned R&D area. This role involves conducting and collaborating on research and development projects that align with the business strategic plan. The role includes a combination of managing direct reports in the Hardware R&D Engineering team, Project Management/Cross-Functional team leadership, and design engineering. Additionally, the role includes identifying customer needs for specific projects, managing their development and execution, and addressing any issues that may delay product or project timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee operations in the R&D Hardware team.
Manage the R&D Engineering staff including staff development.
Lead research and development R&D Hardware Projects Team and Cross-Functional Team.
Address issues that may delay product or project timelines and recommend appropriate actions.
Contribute technically and managerially to develop proposals to achieve strategic objectives
Contribute strategies and specific programs to achieve business objectives.
Foster and manage customer relationships.
Emulate and support Agilent culture
Collaborate with Marketing to Identify customer needs and manage the development and execution of projects.
Location: Must be commutable to Santa Clara, CA site
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferred) in Robotics/Automation or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a first-level department manager leading people, projects, and/or programs.
- Experience in leading Lab Automation R&D teams is highly desired.
- Experience in Bio-Pharma Lab Automation is a plus.
- "Hands-on" manager who is currently contributing some designs to project team
- Highly collaborative with excellent communication skills.
- Strong technical contributor.

This job has a full time weekly schedule. Applications for this job will be accepted until at least December 4, 2024 or until the job is no longer posted.The full-time equivalent pay range for this position is $172,512.00 - $269,550.00/yr plus eligibility for bonus, stock and benefits. Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
