R&D Portfolio Forecasting and Analysis Sr. Manager

Amgen is seeking an R&D Portfolio Forecasting and Analysis Sr Manager to join the Research and Development Strategy and Operations organization. In this role, you will provide R&D functional management with resource capacity forecasts, based on supply and demand analysis, to enable effective operational planning & decision making. You will provide stewardship of R&D resource algorithms, and supply tracking processes, to drive a systematic methodology and tool for forecasting functional resources in support of functional planning, portfolio management and process efficiency monitoring.

Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee delivery of resource forecasts (demand and supply) with coordinated analysis to guide appropriate workforce planning in support of the current portfolio or for the evaluation of business cases
  • Create new resource algorithms in partnership with functional leadership to expand the number of roles and functions with high functioning demand equations.
  • Develop strong working relationships with functional leadership, senior management, finance, and portfolio managers
  • Apply strategic data-based insight to develop business recommendations or objectives to align with future needs
  • Partner with functional leads to evaluate data, anticipate questions from leadership, and provide premeditated context and insights in response
  • Drive system and process innovation within the team and the larger organization
  • Coordinate functional stakeholder engagement to the development and maintenance of resource demand algorithms, workforce supply, and review of role-based capacity
  • Proactively communicate decision outcomes, resourcing gaps, and data continuity concerns to functional leads
  • Adapt to a constantly evolving, fast-paced and often ambiguous environment
  • Partner with finance and functional budget gatekeepers to embed resource budget true up, impact and variance analysis into the resource forecasting process
  • Provide direction, coaching and mentorship for staff to deliver quality workforce planning outputs

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of directly related experience OR
  • Master’s degree and 6 years of directly related experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of directly related experience OR
  • Associate degree and 10 years of directly related experience OR
  • High School diploma/GED and 12 years of directly related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in workforce planning including head count supply and demand maintenance/oversight and resource equation development
  • Advanced user of a data analytics software stack (Excel, Access, Spotfire, Tableau, Smartsheet, Alteryx, etc…)
  • Associates or advanced degree in engineering, life science, management science (decision analysis, operations research, statistics, strategic planning), finance, or economics
  • Experience with resourcing applications (Planisware preferable)
  • 9+ years work experience in life sciences or medically related field, including 6 years of biopharmaceutical clinical product development
  • Strong clinical trials operations knowledge, drug development lifecycle and portfolio management processes
  • Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal, project management, and strategic / critical thinking abilities and eye for business
  • Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills with ability to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences
  • Self-starter with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities, priorities and tasks with minimal direction
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, as well as build external relationships and navigate a matrixed organization
  • Proficient facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Previous people management experience

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
