Manager Engineering - Packaging (Night Shift)

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role will lead the engineering activities at the Packaging - Drug Product organization in the night 12-hour shift structure. Responsible for supervising, hiring, and developing staff. Ensuring operations uptime and activities are completed on time while maintaining safety, quality, and financial objectives.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for Work Orders and preventive maintenance activities execution and compliance following all safety guidelines.
  • Plan, prioritize, and coordinate the work of maintenance technicians and engineers, ensuring they have the proper training, equipment, and system access to perform maintenance tasks and resolve equipment issues effectively.
  • Develop and maintain training programs for automation and maintenance personnel, including cGMP, technical, SOP, and compliance training, and maintain accurate training records.
  • Create individual development plans with clear objectives and milestones, mentoring staff and fostering technical growth to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis for critical issues and develop preventive solutions to avoid recurrence, serving as a technical expert on equipment and systems.
  • Provide technical solutions for a range of technologies, including vision systems, serialization, PLC controls, servo drives, mechanical assemblies, motors, pneumatics, and electro-mechanical integrations.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities, including New Product Introductions (NPI), CAPAs, and engineering projects requiring technical support, in collaboration with Business Units (BU) and Engineering teams.
  • Lead and implement automation and maintenance improvement projects of low complexity while ensuring full process compliance and alignment to industry standards such as 21 CFR Part 11 and GMP.
  • Develop and maintain maintenance metrics to benchmark site performance against global and industry standards, using data to drive improvement strategies.
  • Oversee the development, review, and approval of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Plans owned by the maintenance department.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Quality Assurance to align maintenance strategies with compliance commitments, support minor deviation investigations, and act as a liaison during compliance inspections.
  • Interact with senior external personnel and other organizations to coordinate technical activities and ensure alignment.
  • Support non-standard shift operations, including first, second, third, 12-hour, and weekend shifts as needed for business operations.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree in Engineering

Or

Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of combined Engineering, Process Development and/or Manufacturing support experience

Or

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5 of combined Engineering, Process Development and/or Manufacturing support experience

And

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have previous managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Educational background in Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge on inspection and/or packaging manufacturing processes.
  • Combined maintenance and automation experience.
  • Automation Vision systems, serialization, and control system (PLC) experience.
  • Rockwell automation systems experience or knowledge.
  • Understanding of regulatory trends in the industry. Some direct experience with the FDA or equivalent regulatory body.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience and process improvement mentality.
  • Experience managing budget with a financial business acumen.
