Position Summary:

Apellis is seeking a seasoned learning and development professional with background experience in a commercial customer-facing role for the position of Senior Manager, Commercial Learning at Apellis. It is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant impact across the commercial organization.

The role will be heavily focused on executing learning solutions across the customer-facing teams within the Ophthalmology department. It will require a leadership mindset, strong communication, planning, and presentation skills, the ability to work cross functionally with key stakeholders, and demonstrate the ability to execute tasks with rigor and agility.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Integrate with high-performing teams within the Commercial organization whose approach aligns with Apellis’ mission, values, and culture.
  • Lead execution of onboarding and day-to-day learning while developing opportunities to optimize the learning experience over time through the inclusion of key stakeholder feedback
  • Engage with vendors and key internal stakeholders to design learning curriculum and training for customer-facing teams, specifically within the ophthalmology department
  • Proactively seek key stakeholder feedback, thinking holistically about business needs, learning gaps, and recommendations for learning solutions that will enable the long-term success of customer-facing teams
  • Build strong, positive relationships with business partners, functional area leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to create synergies and ensure alignment with business objectives
  • Work collaboratively to deliver high-level educational materials to customer-facing teams
  • Manage the approval of training content through the Promotional Review Committee (PRC) process
  • Maintain connections with medical affairs to ensure synergies between medical and learning functions
  • Manage the approval of training content through the Promotional Review Committee (PRC) process
  • Ensure all training complies with Apellis values, code of practice and other relevant SOPs
  • Develop and deliver learning content for events such as Fast Starts, POAs, Ad-hoc business initiatives
  • Support the Director in identifying knowledge and skills gaps, propose solutions to close gaps, and build capabilities over time

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BS/BA degree required

Experience:

  • 7+ years of biotech/pharma experience with a minimum of 2 years in a headquarter-based training and learning role
  • Experience in a customer-facing role such as sales, account management, and/or market access roles, preferred

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of the commercial space within the pharmaceutical/biotech ecosystem, behaviors of customers, and adult learning principles
  • Track record of delivering excellent end-to-end learning processes, including curriculum design and development and classroom facilitation
  • Passion for understanding and championing the needs of field teams to drive impact for customers as well as motivation and satisfaction for the customer-facing teams
  • Motivated to be a part of envisioning and building a global learning infrastructure that will support the immediate and long-term needs of Apellis
  • Ability to navigate and execute independently in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, managing through ambiguity
  • Commitment to collaboration and engagement, with a history of success working within in a matrix environment and with vendor partners
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and varying levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated integrity on the job, including an understanding of relevant rules and regulations

Travel Requirements:

Limited domestic travel, expected to be no more than 25% (e.g., field rides, regional meetings, headquarter visits)
