Product Owner, Scientific Data Product and Platforms Group

Possible Locations - Warsaw, Barcelona, Gothenburg

Introduction to role:

Join AstraZeneca’s R&D Data Office, an industry-leading enabler of data and AI strategy. As a Product Owner, you will be part of the newly created Scientific Data Products and Platforms (SDPP) group. You will work closely with scientists, data engineers and therapeutic areas across AstraZeneca R&D to uncover and understand customer platform needs for the data domains they are assigned. This role requires combining and representing scientific and technical governance requirements to the IT team with Senior collaborator engagement and negotiation skills.

The SDPP Platform currently supports the Imaging and Omics data domains and moving forward will support other scientific data types. The Platform Product Owner will initially be aligned with one data domain (ie Omics or Imaging) and will assume responsibility for new data domains over time.

Accountabilities:

You will develop and communicate the product and platform vision and roadmap, prioritise building what matters most to achieve the strategic goals and initiatives. You will ensure that the ongoing work is aligned to scientists’ requirements and provide technical translation of those requirements as needed to drive the right solutions. You will also participate in programme increment planning and work with other Product Managers within the Data Office in aligning the strategic priorities, dependencies and roadmap across the Data Office portfolio of products and services.

You will advance the SDPP Platform that serves to provide enriched analytics scientific data when and where it is needed. By making the scientific data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR), the Platform will enable researchers to make new correlations, better characterize disease, improve patient stratification, monitor therapeutic response and ultimately accelerate the drug development process.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Extensive Product Management experience

  • Hands-on experience from Agile development, preferably in a business context.

  • Relevant degree in Information/Data Science, Computer Science, Informatics, IT, or other related subject area.

  • Track record of significant strategic data project delivery with demonstration of clear scientific and/or operational value

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build positive relationships

  • Conflict resolution: succeeding in situations where a high degree of business insight, influencing and tact are required to find a way forward

  • Needs the energy, experience, and motivation to work across global & functional boundaries

  • Travel – willingness and ability to travel domestically & internationally.

  • Resilience – ability to overcome and empower others in the face of a changing environment

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience of achieving tangible and acknowledged value in a similar position and scale of challenge and opportunity.

  • Experience of pharma and the life sciences

  • An understanding of the application and analysis of Imaging and/or Omics data in R&D

  • Knowledge of Drug Discovery and Development practice in BioPharma

  • Strong Change Management track record.

  • Experience project manager with a great understanding of the project phase and the connection between classic project management and Agile ways of working

  • Experience of running project in a GxP regulated environment
