As a Manufacturing, Senior Director at AstraZeneca, you will have the opportunity to set the strategic direction for the Process Execution Teams. This role is not just about managing, but about leading and inspiring. You will be a key member of the site leadership team, driving the implementation and delivery of manufacturing performance in line with our manufacturing plan, customer needs, and costs. You will also be accountable for site, global, and leading-edge projects.

Join our commercial scale cell therapy facility in Rockville, Maryland, the newest addition to our global supply network. This manufacturing facility will make a direct contribution and immediate impact to patients by delivering life-saving cell therapies. It is challenging but highly rewarding work, involving hundreds of talented people throughout the manufacturing lifecycle along with supporting office functions.

What you will do:

  • Develop the strategic direction for the site Manufacturing function that aligns with the broader AstraZeneca cell therapy strategy and objectives.

  • Build, develop, and lead the site Manufacturing function to ensure right first-time delivery of cell therapies to patients

  • As a member of the Site Leadership Team, collaborate with partner functions to ensure manufacturing operations meet patient demand

  • Employ experience and expertise to resolve the most complex issues in Manufacturing Management.

  • Employ coaching, training, and mentoring to develop talent and build a cell therapy manufacturing talent pipeline

  • Be accountable for the department budget in alignment with site operations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 15 years of work experience in cGMP biologics and/or cell therapy manufacturing, including management experience. OR

  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 13 years of work experience in cGMP biologics and/or cell therapy manufacturing including management experience OR

  • PhD with a minimum of 10 years of work experience in cGMP biologics and/or cell therapy manufacturing including management experience

  • Proven leadership promoting motivation and empowering others to accomplish individual, team, and organizational objectives.

  • Ability to lead cross-functional working groups and teams; Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, resources, performance targets, and project initiatives in a global and regional environment.

  • Proven negotiation, collaboration, and interpersonal leadership skills

  • Budgetary and resource management planning experience

  • Conceptual, analytical, and strategic thinking.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience leading a cell therapy manufacturing operation

  • Previous experience in building a cell therapy organization.
