We have an exciting opportunity for a Physical Modeller (Senior Scientist) to join our team! This position is within Oral Product Development (OPD) within Pharmaceutical Technology and Development and will be based at our site in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) apply science and technology that turns concepts into actual medicines which help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations and devices required to support new medicines – from supplies for use in toxicology studies and clinical trials to developing the technology to ensure drugs can be scaled up for commercial manufacture.

In Oral Product Department, we focus on the design and development of commercial products and processes, contribute to new product introductions and continuous improvement of launched products. We work across several therapy and disease areas developing a wide range of oral products including immediate release and controlled release oral dosage forms of small molecules. Oral Product Development have a strategic global team of experts to increase the application and impact of modelling and simulation on pharmaceutical development.

What you'll do
In this role you will work collaboratively with engineers, formulators, analysts, and a variety of scientific specialists and project managers across a global organization to effectively deliver advanced modelling. The role holder will typically:

  • Translate complex physical and pharmaceutical problems into appropriate mechanistic/first principles models and deliver timely solutions.

  • Work collaboratively with experimentalists with different backgrounds to identify Modelling & Simulation opportunities and to strategically direct experimentation.

  • Contribute to the organizational digital transformation.

  • Establish strong working relationships with other team members in the Modelling and Simulation skill area and with other colleagues in Oral Product Development to enable an impact-driven application of Modelling & Simulation.

  • Develop, validate and implement Modelling & Simulation protocols to be used by the wider scientific community.

Essential Requirements and Skills

  • MSc/PhD in physical chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics or another relevant area.

  • Academic and/or industrial experience in the development and implementation of first principle/mechanistic models describing physical chemistry or transport phenomena.

  • Strong expertise in relevant programming and scripting languages, e.g. Matlab, C++, Python or similar, and willingness to learn.

  • Strong motivation to understand pharmaceutical development activities to design, manufacture, evaluate drug products.

  • Proven strong collaboration, communication, influencing and networking skills.

  • Proficiency in English.

  • Cultural awareness.

Desirable Requirements and Skills

  • Experience in the application of first principle/mechanistic models in the design and performance evaluation of pharmaceutical products and processes.

  • Working experience in the Pharmaceutical/Food/Cosmetics/Fast Moving Consumer Goods Industry.

  • A rational approach to problem solving, and an ability to make judgements based on sound reasoning. ​

  • Experience in process modelling or willingness to learn
