Make a more meaningful impact to patients’ lives around the globe

Here you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to patients’ lives. With science at its heart, this is the place where breakthroughs born in the lab become transformative medicines – for the world’s most complex diseases. Answer unmet medical needs by pioneering the next wave of science, focusing on outcomes and shaping the patient ecosystem.

With our ground-breaking pipeline, the outlook is bright. Be proud to be part of a place that has achieved so much, yet is still moving forward. There’s no better time to join our global, growing enterprise as we lead the way for healthcare and society.

What You’ll do

This role is within the Centre for Genomics Research. We are looking for a Clinical Informatics Scientist to support the growing data, informatics and analytics capabilities of the Centre. The Centre was launched in April 2016 and has the bold ambition to analyse up to two million genomes by 2026. Using genomics data and state-of-the-art methods for genomic analysis, we investigate underlying genetic causes of disease and integrate genomics across the entire drug discovery and development platform.

What you will be doing on daily basis? You will be…

  • contributing your expertise in clinical data standards, ontologies and medical terminologies, controlled vocabularies and ontologies used in healthcare data to facilitate deep phenotyping research at the forefront of statistical genetics and machine learning;
  • facilitating integration of clinical data with genomics data to support target discovery, validation, and genotype-phenotype associations enabling patient clinical trial stratification;
  • explaining the significance of data in a way that can be easily understood by others, interpreting, integrating and reporting of a range of data, intelligence and evidence from large phenotype datasets;
  • leading analyses of patient-level data for identification and characterisation of patient subgroups defined by clinical features and/or disease trajectories;
  • working hands-on with industry leading technologies as our informatics capabilities are fully cloud-based and were designed to handle the analysis of large-scale data aiming to reach up to 2 million genomes by 2026.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Proven background in population health data in academic / healthcare / pharmaceutical setting
  • Previous experience handling and analysing patients’ data in a regulated, clinical research environment (incl. but not limited to EU privacy regulations, informed consent, Good Clinical Practice).
  • Previous exposure to Electronic Health Records from a major EU/UK/US healthcare provider.
  • Programming experience R/Python and SQL
  • Hands-on expertise with clinical data standards, medical terminologies and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (e.g. but not limited to: ICD9/10/11; SNOMED; HPO; NHS digital).
  • Experience harmonising diverse health datasets
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to proficiently communicate with team members and non-experts, both verbally and through documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with Electronic Health Record (e.g. HES) data mining, handling and analysis.
  • Degree in Medicine or a medical research discipline

Desirable:

  • Experience in handling longitudinal data at the individual patient level.
  • Hands-on experience working with health data models (e.g. OMOP CDM)
  • Hands-on experience of developing phenotypic cohort expressions in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Experience in handling and analysing free text health records, including NLP pipelines, data/text mining, and clinical decision support.
  • Experience in advanced visualisation and visual analytics of healthcare data.
