The Global Community Investment Sr. Manager, Alexion, sits within the Health Equity team of Global Corporate Affairs and is both a strategic and tactical role, supporting the Global Director, Community Investment to deliver and grow our global portfolio of community investment. This includes our Alexion Charitable Foundation in the US, corporate donations, matching gifts and volunteerism.

This role will be the lead for community investment within Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, advancing our mission to drive greater health equity, measure and report progress, define and set targets and policies, and work closely with our non-profit partners to ensure sustained impact. The ideal candidate will bring practical, hands-on experience with project management, communications, and stakeholder engagement. Teamwork, diplomacy, and an open mind are essential character traits that will aid the candidate when working with the non-profit sector in countries and communities all over the world. You are a strong communicator and can easily adapt your style to meet cultural differences. We believe that you have experience working with the non-profit sector or working in a corporate giving/Foundation role, and delivering community investment programmes or knowledge of Corporate Social Responsibility in the health field would be considered an asset to this role.

What you’ll do:

Community Investment: Corporate Donations, Matching Gifts & Volunteerism

  • Lead Community Investment in the execution of short- and long-term Operational Plans to support Alexion’s objectives, including (but not limited to): development, implementation, and maintenance of program work flows, systems and processes, training of cross-functional partners involved in the program, liaising with external stakeholders as necessary, developing and managing internal progress report metrics, and interfacing with cross-functional team members to ensure collaboration and transparency.
  • Oversee global Alexion Community Investment reporting, ensuring completeness and accuracy of data submitted into the global Community Investment database.
  • Oversee annual community investment budget. Provide applicable metrics to assist in the development of financial forecasting/tracking for program budgets, including bi-annual MPT process.
  • Administer community investment initiatives and communications related to employee volunteerism and matching gifts.
  • Review all charitable giving requests on behalf of the central Cost Center. Manage the internal approval and financial distribution processes.
  • Ensure information and records/documents collected for charitable giving requests are complete, accurate, and maintained throughout the lifecycle of the requests.
  • Manage all vendors, non-profit organisations, and logistics partners supporting the execution of programs.
  • Implement, update, and maintain existing program SOPs as well as ensure compliance with all relevant internal Alexion SOPs and policies. Develop integrated SOPs/policies and systems for a shared Alexion/AstraZeneca employee population, specifically related to Volunteer Paid Time Off and Matching Gifts. Ensure all relevant SOPs are complementary and support those of AstraZeneca.
  • Primary point of contact for Alexion community and ESG partners, including but not limited to Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship and ESG & CSR Board.

Community Investment: Health Equity Strategy Development

  • Work with AstraZeneca Community Investment Director to develop a global and holistic community investment strategy to enable greater health equity.
  • Develop a reporting methodology to support the tracking and delivery of core KPIs.
  • Lead, from Alexion perspective, relevant SOP/policy integration, including Volunteerism, Disaster Relief, Corporate Sponsorship/Donation, and Matching Gifts.
  • Serve as the Alexion point of contact for all internal Community Investment queries, policies & reporting, and manage external requests for funding.

Community Investment: Alexion Charitable Foundation

Review, vet and administer all request management processes related to the Foundation which included, but are not limited to, intake, screening for completeness of submissions, dissemination, review, approval, notification, supply, generation of grant agreements, grantee partner and reporting management.

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in one of the disciplines related to public health, business administration, or other relevant qualification.
  • Minimum three years of community investment / CSR experience in a strategic corporate giving or Foundation role.
  • Healthcare industry experience (working for a healthcare company or in delivering programmes in the health sector). A focus on the topics of health equity and access, with a focus on the most vulnerable groups is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community investment guidelines, standards, and reporting requirements. This may include developing policies, procedural documents.
  • Knowledge of sustainability / ESG reporting and governance, such as impact measurement, monitoring, reporting, data collection, validation, and policy.
  • Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, including the ability to understand and influence issues and decision-makers in complicated and complex situations and creating shared agendas.
  • A self-starter with an independent, proactive work ethic and the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Knowledge of the Corporate community investment landscape, including subject matter expertise in charitable regulations, due diligence and best practices.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Advanced degree (Master, PhD, MD) is highly desirable.
  • Global experience, with exposure to senior leadership and/or managing multi-country projects/programmes for a large corporate.
  • One to two years of corporate communications experience, either at an agency or within a multinational organisation. Experience in working with creative agencies and supporting internal and external communication campaigns including adherence to brand guidelines and familiarity with social media platforms and tools.
  • At least two years of non-profit programmatic implementation experience. This may include working with or for a non-profit organisation and managing multi-country programmes, technical leadership on health topics, using evidence-based measurement tools and designing Theory of Change frameworks.
  • Budgetary oversight / accountability for grant administration of at least US $1 million annually.
