The Opportunity:

Avantor is searching for a skilled and experienced Snowflake Administrator to join our team and play a vital role in ensuring the optimal performance, security, and scalability of our Snowflake data platform.

About the Role:

In this role, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including:

  • Provisioning and managing Snowflake accounts, databases, and warehouses.
  • Implementing and enforcing security best practices to safeguard sensitive data.
  • Optimizing Snowflake performance by monitoring resource utilization and tuning queries.
  • Automating administrative tasks to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Estimating and providing sizing and costings for the configurations
  • Collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure their data needs are met effectively.
  • Staying up-to-date on the latest Snowflake features and functionalities.
  • This role will be a full-time position based out of our Pune office.

The team:

Avantor data team partners with Avantor leadership teams in driving the Avantor Key Strategic Data Priorities. We enable Avantor leadership team in effective decision making by providing timely, accurate and actionable insights globally for all the markets, regions, businesses, and functions.

What we’re looking for:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: 10+ overall experience
  • Qualifications:
    • 10+ years of experience administering Snowflake and other cloud-based data platforms
    • 3+ years of experience administering dbt (preferably with Snowflake)
    • Strong understanding of Snowflake architecture, snowpipe, snowsql, etc.
    • Strong understanding of data security principles and best practices.
    • Strong experience in various Snowflake activities viz. cloning, sharing, views securing, caching, scaling, time travel, etc.
    • Experience with SQL and proficiency in writing efficient queries.
    • Strong knowledge of various ELT tools integration with Snowflake
    • Knowledge of various cataloging tools integration with Snowflake
    • Strong knowledge of Snowflake APIs
    • Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or Bash for automation.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Snowflake certified administrator
    • Experience with data governance and compliance frameworks.
    • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts (AWS, Azure, GCP).
    • Experience with data warehousing or data lake concepts.
    • Experience with streaming data management in Snowflake

  • Data Management and Architecture:
    • Lead the design and implementation of secure and scalable data pipelines within Snowflake.
    • Champion data governance best practices to safeguard data integrity and quality within Snowflake.
    • Define data strategies that leverage Snowflake's capabilities for efficient data handling and advanced analytics.
  • Performance and Optimization:
    • Oversee the design of high-performance data models specifically for Snowflake, enabling efficient querying and consumption by BI tools (PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, SAP).
    • Collaborate with AI/ML teams to optimize data preparation and modeling within Snowflake for downstream analytical needs.
    • Continuously monitor and analyze data processing patterns to identify opportunities for performance optimization within Snowflake.
    • Advocate for best practices in cloud technologies (AWS, Azure) to ensure efficient resource utilization and optimal performance for Snowflake workloads.
  • Innovation and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Research, recommend, and integrate new data technologies and tools, expanding Snowflake's capabilities within the organization.
    • Provide mentorship to junior data professionals, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation around Snowflake.
    • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends and advancements in data technologies, effectively communicating their impact on Snowflake utilization.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Clearly communicate technical concepts and data architecture decisions to non-technical audiences, ensuring transparency and collaboration.
    • Suggest data architecture optimizations for consumption, utilization, and advanced analytics within the Snowflake data warehouse.
