Overview

At Bio-Rad CDG, we are building a world-class global R&D capability to support our ambitious clinical diagnostics strategy and drive long-term growth. This Systems Engineering role within Bio-Rad’s R&D organization focuses on applying best engineering practices to system development, from design inputs to product testing. The role emphasizes defining and aligning design inputs, requiring a strong engineering foundation and a systems-level approach to defining, designing, integrating, and testing products.

The position involves coordinating with a multi-disciplinary team to develop diagnostic PCR products, transitioning concepts into design inputs, and advancing prototypes to production-ready items. Expertise in complex systems, including optical and mechanical design, opto-mechanical alignment, imaging and illumination science, fluidics engineering, and plastic consumables, is essential.

To support our existing core diagnostics platforms and execute an exciting new product roadmap, we are seeking an experienced Staff Systems Engineer. This key position focuses on the development and commercialization of cutting-edge in-vitro diagnostics platforms and will be a hybrid role based in our R&D facility in Warsaw, Poland.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Provides technical knowledge of system engineering principles and their application to developing cost-effective, reliable and high-quality systems that satisfy customer needs and business requirements.
  • Reviews and analyzes customer and business requirements to translate, articulates and documents system and sub-system requirements and functions.
  • Generates and analyzes alternative architectures, developing preferred and robust architectures, communicating and coordinating with cross-functional development teams, and assisting with the management of the balance between development cost, schedule, quality and performance.
  • Participates or leads Cross-Functional Teams in efforts relating to system requirements definition, system functional decomposition and requirements allocation, system architecture definition, system modeling, and requirements traceability and compliance including verification plans and reports.
  • Work with human factors engineers to ensure user needs are met with System design and participate or lead design validation activities.
  • Advocate for and implement DfX principles, including Systems, Reliability, Risk, Usability, and Requirements engineering. Lead and mentor others in the effective adoption and execution of these disciplines.
  • Ensures the continuous development of skills and technical expertise required by team to support product development initiatives.
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art principles, theories, and practices around all things Systems and Reliability engineering related activities.
  • Conducts and participates in design/project technical reviews.
  • Conducts and participates in DoE, FMEAs, Hazard Analysis, Risk Management process.
  • Maintains extensive knowledge of state-of-the-art principles, theories, and practices around Systems and Reliability engineering related activities.
  • Works with the development teams in identifying and recommending long term tools, standards, and methods to drive continual Systems and Reliability Engineering improvement.
  • Works to ensure quality and continuously promote Right First Time.

What You Bring:

  • Education: BS in Engineering. MS in Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Native Polish speaker + fluent in English (leading meetings in English).
  • 10 years’ experience in the engineering/development of complex systems.
  • 5 years’ supervisory or project leader experience, preferably in a regulated environment.
  • IVD experience, QSR/ISO regulations & standards, risk management (ISO14971) and Usability Engineering (IEC62366) in medical devices.
  • Strong skill in cross team communication.
  • Ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary team setting collaborating with senior and junior scientists and engineers.
  • Demonstrated innovation and initiative in dealing with technical challenges and assignments.
  • Strong focus on results and achieving goals.
  • Ability to identify internal customers and use their needs and perspectives in driving decisions and activities.
  • Flexible and adaptive to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Training in Design for Excellence principals preferred. DFSS Green Belt certification is desirable.
  • Proficiency with modeling tools (Enterprise Architect or CAPELLA) , C++, Python, or Matlab preferred.
  • Proficiency with Requirements management tools and method.
