About This Role

This position will work a 12-hour rotating shift with a 2,3,2,2,3 rotation, 7AM - 7PM

As a Sr. Facilities Technician I, you will play a pivotal role on our facilities team, operating and repairing vital plant utilities that include medium pressure Boilers, Chillers, Air Compressors, and a variety of water and steam systems. Your expertise will not only ensure the seamless functioning of utility equipment but also contribute significantly to the overall success of our production and lab operations. You'll be the system expert, providing troubleshooting insights, assisting in equipment upgrades, and establishing robust maintenance practices. In the absence of the Utilities Supervisor, your leadership will maintain the continuity of operations. This role is key to delivering value by ensuring the reliable and safe delivery of utilities, impacting business operations, environmental comfort, and the protection of both employees and assets.

What You’ll Do

  • Operate and maintain a variety of utility systems, including Boilers, Chillers, Air Compressors, and more.
  • Troubleshoot and provide expert solutions for utility equipment issues.
  • Assist in planning equipment upgrades and maintenance schedule optimizations.
  • Serve as a substitute for the Utilities Supervisor when needed.
  • Conduct training and mentoring for junior Utility Operators.
  • Manage the offloading, inspection, and maintenance of hazardous waste tank systems.
  • Monitor utility systems through BMS and ParCS control systems and perform regular mechanical space tours.
  • Respond to critical alarms and log readings for plant equipment systems.
  • Execute commissioning tasks and automate functions related to Utilities.
  • Ensure timely completion of corrective and preventative work orders.
  • Assess equipment needs, recommend system improvements, and evaluate necessary spare parts.
  • Provide environmental comfort and maintain fire protection systems.

Who You Are
You are a safety-conscious individual with an advanced understanding of utility systems and mechanical principles. Your communication skills are top-notch, allowing you to effectively present information and collaborate with your team. You're adept at drafting SOPs, authoring PMs, and reading engineering drawings. Thriving under tight deadlines, you're comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and are adaptable to rotating shifts, extended hours, and weekend duties. Team-oriented and proactive, you understand the importance of your role in maintaining operational excellence.

Qualifications

This work requires occasionally ascending/descending a ladder, entering mechanical spaces that could be difficult to traverse, moving/lifting up to 50 lbs. as well as the ability to stand for up to 3 hours at a time.

This position requires to frequently move about the campus to access different equipment and perform different tasks.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 2 years trade school, commensurate military experience or a pharmaceutical background is a plus.
  • 5 years relevant experience.
  • Solid Mechanical skills.
  • BMS or equivalent operating systems and controls experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of steam systems, air systems, chillers, water systems.
  • Experience influencing and leading others.

  • Great organization and time management skills, being efficient and productive.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; quickly understands the needs based on the situation at hand.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to all levels of the organization.
  • Basic computer skills. (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to interact with others in a professional and courteous manner in accordance with Biogen’s Core Behaviors
  • Proficient with lock-out tag-out safety procedures and energized system work practices.
  • Prior experience as a utility operator in a complex pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
