Position Summary:

We are seeking an Executive Director of Business Development to manage and lead the development and execution of corporate strategy in the diabetes therapeutic area. In collaboration with leadership, this individual will play a pivotal role in devising a partnership strategy through identification, organization and ultimately closing of strategic partnerships & acquisitions that align with Biomea Fusion’s goals. This role requires a solid understanding of the diabetes landscape, excellent organizational and relationship-building skills. In order to qualify you must have been on deal teams actively managing transactions. This role is required onsite at minimum 3 days a week (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday), in our Redwood City, CA location.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Execution:

  • Define, develop and execute business development strategies specifically targeting the diabetes market to identify and pursue new partnership and acquisition opportunities.
  • Partner with executive leadership to align business development activities with the company’s long-term goals and objectives in diabetes care.

Transaction Management:

  • Manage the entire transaction process, from initial contact through due diligence, negotiation, and closing of business opportunities
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams, including legal, financial, scientific, and operational departments, to ensure smooth transaction execution.
  • Manage deal structures, contract negotiations, and valuation assessments.

Partnership Development:

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential partners in the diabetes space including biotech and pharmaceutical companies, academic institutions, and other relevant stakeholders).
  • Evaluate partnership opportunities based on research and analysis of strategic fit, potential synergies, and financial impact.
  • Develop business cases, analyze strategic and valuation models, and manage stakeholder and governance processes.
  • Manage new and existing relationships, serving as primary point of contact, addressing inquiries, concerns, needs and requirements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, regulatory affairs, legal, finance, and marketing teams to ensure alignment and successful execution of business development strategies across multiple stages of development.
  • Travel as needed to meet clients, partners, and attend industry conferences & events.

Market & Competitive Analysis:

  • Stay abreast of current and emerging trends, global and domestic competitive landscape, and emerging technologies.
  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify new business and growth opportunities, market segments and potential risks. Provide strategic input and market insights to senior management based on thorough market analysis and competitive intelligence.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, or a related field; an advanced degree (MBA, PhD, etc.) is preferred.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in business development, transaction management, partnerships, or acquisitions within the biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industries, with a strong focus on diabetes. Business Development is the core function of this role.
  • Extensive In-licensing & Out-licensing and Merger & Acquisition experience.
  • Demonstrated success in managing, supporting and closing at least 5 transactions.
  • Knowledge of diabetes landscape, including regulatory requirement and market trends.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong network within the diabetes and broader biotech/pharmaceutical industries is a plus.

Compensation:

The expected salary range for this role is $240,000 to $265,000. An individual’s position within the range may be influenced by multiple factors, including skills and experience in a role, overall performance, individual impact and contributions, tenure, and market dynamics. Base salary is one part of the overall total rewards program, which includes competitive cash compensation, including discretionary bonus program, equity awards and comprehensive benefits program.
