Description
Will support the daily operational and implementation needs of the EHS department and perform duties related to environmental, radiation safety, general safety and industrial hygiene programs. Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in management of site-wide environmental management programs to comply with all EPA/DEP requirements and obligations. Implement strategies to reduce costs and environmental footprint of waste disposal program. Arrange for the transportation and disposal of all site wastes including hazardous waste, biomedical waste, radioactive waste, pharmaceutical waste, bulk materials, oil and universal wastes. Assist with the assessment of waste facilities as part of the waste audit procedures and processes to be used at BIPI to reduce long term environmental liabilities
- Conduct inspections of laboratories, waste management areas, and process and maintenance areas for compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.Conduct environmental inspections including stormwater and SPCC inspections. Complete all associated reports as required. Assist in developing and implementing corrective actions as needed. Assist in ergonomic program implementation by conducting assessments, coaching and training
- Conduct monitoring, sampling and/or analysis of site wastewaters, radioactive isotope use areas,air emissions, and industrial hygiene and and worker safety monitoring and assessments in a compliant manner consistent with BIPI permits, procedures and regulatory rules and regulations. Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of spill response and other monitoring equipment
- Conduct EHS training, as needed for BI personnel & contract workers related to BI EHS and regulatory requirements specific to BIPI operations and assist in the development of EHS training programs
- Support the management of site-wide general safety programs by completing routine tasks as required. General safety programs include Hot Work, Confined Space, Lockout Tagout, Powered Industrial Truck, Ergonomics, and other programs. Tasks include conducting routine assessments and evaluations, participating in periodic reviews, document management, and other tasks as required
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related technical degree
- Minimum of 1 years of relevant work experience, including leadership in project management
- Knowledge and experience in interpretation and implementation of OSHA, EPA, and/or NRC regulations required. At least one of the following certifications required, or to be obtained within 1 year of assignment: ASP, IHIT, CHMM
- Excellent team building, people management, and leadership skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including face-to-face, written, and oral presentations. Effective communication within and across functions
- Experience in managing behavior-based safety programs
- Strong training skills
- Proven success in managing Industrial Hygiene (IH), Process Safety Management (PSM), and Hazmat programs
- Good understanding of how EHS requirements and regulations apply to a biological manufacturing site
- Computer literacy and strong communication/interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
- Strong leadership, organizational, and management skills
- Flexibility, innovation, and analytical problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of teamwork
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related scientific field
- Formal training in Biosafety and Biosecurity
- A nationally recognized certification in Safety, Environmental or Industrial Hygiene is required (CSP, QEP, CIH, etc.)
Desired Skills, Experience And Abilities
Compensation: This position offers a base salary typically between $75,000.00 and $100,000.00 USD. There is opportunity to consider higher compensation above this range based on business need, candidate experience and or skills. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements.
