The role:

The Glasswash Lab Assistant is responsible for following standard operating procedures, independently and also as part of a team, to collect, handle, wash, dry, sterilize, inspect and distribute a wide variety of labware used by our Production, Development, and Research laboratories, and to inspect and test glasswashers, autoclaves, and basic emergency laboratory safety equipment. The Lab Assistant is responsible for tracking of work and materials using computer spreadsheets.

Responsibilities:

• Collect and prep lab glassware and assorted labware following established protocols for cleaning and safety, including washing by hand.
• Load labware materials into heavy-duty, lab-grade washing machines following established protocols and procedures.
• Prepare and load materials into autoclave/steam sterilizer following established protocols and safety procedures.
• Maintain inventory of stocks in designated lab locations including glassware, plasticware, and disposable supplies.
• Maintain accurate records to track workloads, to show that wash/sterilization cycles were completed properly, and to document testing of sterilizers; includes the use of basic excel spreadsheets.
• Inspect facilitys lab safety showers, eyewash stations, and fire extinguishers.
• May perform basic calibrations on lab instruments.
• Keep a clean and orderly work area, primarily the Glasswash & Sterilization room(s), and including shared lab areas, lab equipment, and labware collection/sink areas as needed.
• Establish positive working relationships with the Lab Operations group and CST scientists (our internal customers).
• Assist with any other duties of the Lab Operations group as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and documentation (Microsoft Excel, Word).
• Cleaning experience.
• Organized and hardworking.
• Ability to consistently follow instructions, with strong attention to detail.
• Service and safety oriented, self-motivated and proactive.
• Dependable, takes responsibility for own actions.
• Team-oriented with good communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in an industrial/biotechnology/clinical laboratory setting.
• Mechanical or technical skills.

Physical Conditions / Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stand and walk for most of the work day.
• Must be comfortable working in a typical laboratory/industrial environment with controlled hazards present.
• Work locations include both CST locations: Beverly, MA and Danvers, MA.
