Overview
Research Technician - Bing Center for Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia
Located in the heart of the Boston medical area, the Treon Lab in the Bing Center for Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia (BCWM) within the Dana Farber Cancer Institute is a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, and computational biologists dedicated to the advanced developments of novel therapeutics and genomic discoveries for the lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma called Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia.
The BCWM laboratory uses a variety of biochemical, cell biology, and translational approaches to identify new therapeutic targets and develop preclinical models. The position offers the opportunity to lead research efforts for high-throughput analyses and routine laboratory tasks. A full-time position is available for an enthusiastic, initiative-taking individual who can thrive in a fast-paced, challenging research environment, and can interact well with others as part of a cohesive team. This is a position into the world of innovative laboratory research. Ideal candidates will possess strong people skills along with a desire to help understand the biologics of the disease.
After training, the candidate will start to work more independently and will be mentored by the leadership laboratory colleagues. In the development of the projects, she/he will interact and collaborate closely with other scientists, biologists, chemists, and computational biologists in our global collaborative lab groups.

Responsibilities
- Set up, adjust, calibrate, clean, maintain and troubleshoot equipment.
- Clean, maintain and prepare supplies and work areas and may be responsible for ordering of supplies. Collaborates with Purchasing and may be responsible for negotiating with vendors.
- Conduct standardized biological, microbiological, or biochemical tests and laboratory analyses, including the collection of information and samples from organic substances, such as blood, drugs, animals, and humans.
- Isolate, identify and prepare specimens for examination.
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings, including grant preparation and presentations, and look for opportunities to co-author publications. May be expected to participate in formal and information presentations of results to staff.
- Participate in grant application process and manuscript preparation as required.
- Maintains detailed notebook of all work-related activities.
- Monitors laboratory work to ensure compliance with Environmental Health and Safety information as well as the standard operation procedures specific to each laboratory.
- Expected to provide intellectual and interactive commitment to position by keeping up with appropriate literature and research publications.
- May be responsible for the development, modification and improvement of standard operating procedures.
- Uses computers, computer-interfaced equipment, robotics or high-technology applications to perform work duties.
- May be responsible for designing and executing advanced experiments and setting strategy.
- May be responsible for the examination of animals and specimens to detect the presence of disease or other problems.
- May be responsible for monitoring laboratory budgets.
- Ability and motivation to learn new technologies as required.
- Candidates with one or more of following techniques/experiences are preferable: culture of mammalian cells, western blot, flow cytometry, drug screening
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisory responsibilities. Normally receives detailed instructions on work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree required with a major in biology or chemistry preferred.
Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, including the ability to manage a variety of tasks in a demanding environment, positive attitude and diligence, as well as ability to think on one’s feet are required.
- Applies Institute policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
- Works on problems of limited scope.
- Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.
We are looking for candidates with at least 2 years of availability
Schedule: This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week.Having wide-ranging experience, uses technical concepts and Institute objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
