Overview

The Center for BRCA and Related Genes at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to lead our Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) initiatives. This role offers a unique opportunity to advance cutting-edge research in genome instability and BRCA-deficient cancers, with the potential to translate findings into novel therapeutic applications.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in widely used and customized NGS assays and technologies.
  • Provide oversight of activities related to NGS experiments, including quality controls, protocol optimization, troubleshooting, and data analysis and interpretation.
  • Collaborate with the Center Directors and other Research Scientists and interact with clinical investigators and scientific and technical staff within the Center.
  • Interact with external/industry collaborators.
  • Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Present data at scientific meetings as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and supervise technical assistants

Qualifications

  • PhD. or equivalent degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, with a minimum of 4 years of postdoctoral experience. Industry experience is a plus.
  • Strong background in the field of genome stability, DNA repair, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies, as evidenced by a solid record of first-author publications in high-impact journals.
  • Proven experience developing and optimizing NGS workflows.
  • Hands-on experience in NGS data analysis and visualization, with expertise in bioinformatics tools such as R, Python, and command-line interfaces.
  • Hands-on experience operating multiple different NGS instruments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with experience in preparing manuscripts, patents, and grant applications and presenting research findings at scientific meetings.
