Overview

The Assistant Director makes vital contributions to the Division of Philanthropy, responsible for producing high-impact ad hoc analyses, presentations, and external benchmarking survey responses and analysis. This role generates analyses to support data-driven decision-making, including data visualization and financial storytelling. A crucial component of this role is the prioritization of ad hoc inquiries. Reports to Associate Director, Financial Planning and Analysis, Fiscal & Regulatory Management.

A successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, the ability to synthesize large datasets into actionable insights, and experience creating executive and Board level PowerPoint presentations. This role requires flexibility, creativity, and the ability to pivot quickly to requests for special projects and data-driven reports.

The onboarding of this role will include a comprehensive training process which includes completion of online modules, shadowing colleagues, as well as hands-on learning experiences throughout the first calendar year in the role.

This position is considered remote, 0-1 days onsite at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. DFCI guidelines state that employees must reside in New England: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.

Responsibilities

  • Ad Hoc Reporting and Data Analysis
    • Develop reports and analyses in response to senior leadership inquiries
    • Synthesize complex financial and donor data into clear, actionable insights
    • Serve as liaison to Financial Operations to ensure that ad hoc data needs inform process improvements
  • Presentation and Data Visualization
    • Design PowerPoint decks for senior leadership, executive meetings, and Board of Trustees presentations on time-sensitive basis
    • Leverage data visualization tools to create compelling visuals
    • Create financial storytelling elements
  • External Benchmarking and Surveys
    • Manage and complete annual surveys for external organizations
    • Analyze peer institution data to assess fundraising performance
    • Collaborate with leadership to position fundraising results within national and industry-wide contexts

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required plus 4+ years of relevant work experience. A background in fiscal/regulatory-related issues preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong analytical skills and able to interpret and present data quickly and effectively
  • Expertise in PowerPoint presentation development
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to synthesize large datasets and make clear recommendations
  • High attention to detail, adaptability, and ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is considered remote, up to 1 day in the office at 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA each week. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
