Summary

Job Summary

The Housing Facilities Services department (HFS) at CU Boulder is now encouraging applications for a Plumber Helper! This position will assist CU's Master Plumber with installations and repairs, and learn the skills needed to maintain campus facilities over the summer. This will include basic plumbing duties, fetching tools and parts to assist the Master Plumber, and organizing the equipment and work areas for each job. This is a temporary assignment with an anticipated end date of August 9th, 2024 and will be 100% on campus.

Housing Facilities Services (HFS) is a comprehensive facility management operation that provides around-the-clock support to over 10,000 residents and 20,000 conference guests annually. Services include maintenance, repair, renovation, project management, capital construction, housekeeping and grounds-keeping operations. HFS has approximately 190 full-time employees and approximately 80 part-time and student staff, who all strive to give residents the best living experience possible.

Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

This position will work under the direct supervision of the master plumber by doing the following:

  • Locate pipe leaks and cut open walls to expose pipes
  • Install garbage disposals
  • Check and clean the drains in the rest rooms in the resident’s halls
  • Replace faucet washers and toilet wax rings
  • Fix leaks on shower heads by replacing the cartridge
  • Use a sewer machine to clean the drain lines
  • Packing and sorting plumbing equipment for each job

What You Should Know

  • The anticipated shift for this position is Mon to Friday 7am to 3:30pm, and could change to 6am - 2:30pm
  • There will be a chance of overtime on Saturday's during peak rush times.
  • This position is located 100% on campus

What We Can Offer

  • The starting pay for this position is $19 per hour and is eligible for overtime.

What We Require

  • 6 months of experience related to the work assignment.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to organize material.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.
  • Safety conscious.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Receptive to instruction.
  • 6 months of previous experience in skilled trades, building/apartment maintenance, or working with a Journeyman or Master Plumber.
