Job Summary

The Better Planet Laboratory at CU boulder is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate starting as soon as possible. This position is for 2 years. Under leadership of Zia Mehrabi you will join a group of data scientists and creatives that build data products and services to solve problems in development for a better and fairer planet. You will play a key role in the design, testing, and deployment of machine learning and data science solutions, data visualization, analyses and insights generation for communications and partners. The Better Planet Laboratory is a group of data scientists and creatives working at the University of Colorado Boulder. Our work crosses a number of development areas including food security, climate change, biodiversity, human health, welfare, infrastructure and technology. Responsibilities

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Working with PI (Zia Mehrabi) to creatively design machine learning pipelines for learning and inference;
  • Delivering data products and services for in-house analysis and external partners;
  • Conducting statistical analyses for reports and communication materials;
  • Maintaining code bases and reproducible workflows;
  • Working with a broader team of subject experts, data scientists, engineers, and experience designers for application design.

What You Should Know

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • It is expected this position will work 40 hours a week.

What We Can Offer

The salary associated with this role is $70,000-$85,000.

What We Require

  • PhD in data science, statistics, earth sciences, mathematics, or engineering-related fields.
  • A strong background and working knowledge of theory of inferential and predictive statistics.
  • Very high proficiency in applied programming in Python (and/or R) including standard geospatial packages and machine learning tools and frameworks.
  • Experience with manipulation and analysis of multiple kinds of data including surveys and satellite imagery; and working with SQL and no SQL databases a plus.
  • Working knowledge of parallel and high performance computing locally and in the cloud.
  • Experience with Google Earth Engine and/or Microsoft's Planetary Computer a plus.
