The Director, Business Development Proteomics role contributes to our mission by consistently closing new and repeat proteomic lab services business from customer accounts in an assigned territory.

Position Summary:

Discovery is looking for a talented and passionate Business Development Director (individual contributor) to join our dynamic Services (genomics, IHC, flow cytometry) sales team. As a Business Development Director, you will play a pivotal role in consistently developing and closing new and repeat business from biotech and pharma customers and prospect accounts in an assigned territory. A Day in the Life of a Business Development Director at Discovery Life Sciences:

  • Prospect and source potential new pharma and biotech customers to sell genomics, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and flow cytometry services.
  • Meet with potential customers to understand their scientific research and where our company can add value to their research.
  • Attend networking events within the proteomics, genomic research industry.
  • Collaborate with scientific SMEs to obtain sales contracts.
  • Build and update business development strategy for current territory.

Position Qualifications (Education, Skills, Experience):

  • 3+ years of business development sales experience selling one or more of our service offerings - genomics, immunohistochemistry (IHC), or flow cytometry
  • Deep rolodex of clients in large pharma/mid-size biotech accounts with a particular focus on biomarker profiling and clinical development opportunities and contacts
  • Experience selling into B and C suite at pharmaceutical companies
  • Bachelor’s degree required; MS or PhD is preferred
  • Motivation to communicate directly with potential clients via e-mail, phone, and in-person
  • Ability to build and nurture relationships with clients and prospects
  • Formal sales training preferred
  • Team-first attitude and passion to achieve proteomic services team and company-wide goals
  • Salesforce and LinkedIn Sales Navigator experience is desirable but not required
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to respond to customer needs
  • Domestic (required) and International (as needed) travel - may be up to 50%
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively lead and execute corporate Strategic Account planning process for assigned biopharma accounts for genomics, immunohistochemistry, and flow cytometry based lab services
  • Lead forecasting and analyzing of Strategic Account customers and services as well as helping with ad hoc analysis in diagnosing the health and accelerating growth of various service lines and sales strategies
  • Develop strong presence within assigned Strategic Accounts by establishing new relationships, fostering existing relationships, leading group presentations, scientific expos, targeted marketing strategies
  • Coordinate large, strategic meetings between customer’s senior scientific leadership, biomarker operations, and procurement with Company leadership to win large-scale projects
  • Pitch and present Discovery Life Sciences’ research and clinical lab services using professional selling skills
  • Utilize your mass spectrometry and other proteomics expertise in order to effectively discuss projects with R&D groups, business directors, legal departments and purchasing managers
  • Present and help evaluate the workability of client projects with Discovery Life Sciences’ Scientific leadership team, internal and external collaborators
  • Productively manage an opportunity pipeline (25-50+ open opportunities) with updated next steps and feedback from customers
  • Consistently advance calls and win business by setting clear next steps and properly executing them
  • Seek to develop long-term contracts with each Strategic Account across entire product and service portfolio to build a higher-level of commitment between our Company and the Account
  • Report market intel back to team (Management, Business Unit Leadership, Sales, Marketing, etc.) by documenting sales calls and client feedback
  • Work cooperatively with inside sales support professionals, Business Development Directors, Marketing, and Feasibility to maximize sales success in assigned territory
  • Generate a variety of reports for clients and internal management (e.g., using Salesforce.com) as needed
  • Respect the privacy of the personal information of patients, co-workers, and all individuals with whom the Company interacts
  • Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the Company and its operations
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor. These may, on occasion, be unrelated to the position described here.
  • Consistent and predictable attendance is an essential function of the position. Role is remote.

Compensation and Benefits:

Discovery Life Sciences is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices, and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the anticipated total compensation range is $200,000-$225,000. The exact base pay offered for this role will depend on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.
