Sr/Prin Scientist, Antibody Engineering and Characterization
EvolveImmune Therapeutics
Scientist, Biotherapeutics
Full Time
Who We Are
EvolveImmune Therapeutics is a next-generation immunotherapy company pioneering a new class of precision cancer medicines to transform patient outcomes, compared to current solid tumor therapies. Our first-in-category biotherapeutic EVOLVE platform utilizes integrated T cell co-stimulation to directly target tumor cells to deliver durable, tissue-localized anti-tumor adaptive immune responses. Our newly expanded, state-of-the-art 16,000+ square foot laboratory and office space located in the New Haven, CT biotechnology corridor and our laboratory footprint in Farmington, CT support in-house biologics, immunobiology, and translational activities, enabling our rapid pipeline progress. This includes EV-104, our lead solid tumor program rapidly advancing toward IND filing.
The Role
We are seeking a Senior/Principal Scientist to join our Biotherapeutics group and contribute to a team effort to develop next-generation immunotherapies for effective cancer treatment and to advance our T cell engager platform. The core responsibility of this individual is to engineer novel drug candidates utilizing our co-stimulatory EVOLVE platform and work collaboratively with other functions in research and development to advance candidate molecules through preclinical research.
A qualified candidate is a highly motivated and creative individual with substantial industry experience in antibody engineering and characterization. A successful candidate will be responsible for protein design and vector engineering, as well as expression, purification and biophysical characterization. Additional responsibilities may include tissue culture and cell biology work as well as cell-based assays, flow cytometry, and cell line engineering.
The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator and an effective collaborator, will demonstrate professional verbal and written communication, be capable of presenting scientific results to multidisciplinary teams and will contribute to writing scientific publications.
We are looking for a team player who excels in a matrixed environment, enjoys collaboration, and leverages growth opportunities. This is a unique opportunity for someone passionate about biologics drug discovery and development, driven to translate our breakthroughs into innovative therapeutics.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage protein engineering projects, including the design, expression, purification, and characterization of antibodies and bispecifics.
- Design and execution of optimization strategies of biologics for properties such as affinity, potency, stability, specificity, and PK
- Support biophysical characterization and developability assessment of antibodies using state of the art technologies for binding kinetics (SPR/BLI) and for biophysical properties (DSC, DLS, ciEF, LC-MS etc)
- Work in a team effort to establish biophysical and cell-based assays for antibody characterization and prioritization towards lead selection.
- Collaborate and develop close scientific partnership with other functional areas across different teams
- Help build a culture that embraces scientific excellence, continuous learning and incorporation of emerging techniques on the leading-edge of oncology drug discovery
- May manage and mentor junior team members
- This role is a full time, in-person position in EvolveImmune’s laboratories in Branford, CT.
Qualifications and Experience
- PhD in Biochemistry or related discipline with postdoctoral experience and 5+ yrs of relevant industry experience in antibody engineering, or MS in Biochemistry or related discipline with 8+ years of industry experience.
- Deep understanding of antibody structure and function, as well as the biologics drug discovery processes as a whole
- Extensive hands-on experience working with bispecific antibodies or multispecifics and in-depth knowledge of T cell engager platforms
- Depth of understanding of antibody engineering for design and optimization utilizing structure-activity relationships and molecular modelling to predict behaviors
- Needs to have a proven track record of excellent problem-solving, antibody engineering and lead optimization as demonstrated by publications or presentations
- Broad experience with expression, purification, and characterization of antibodies and complex biologics
- Experience with biochemical and biophysical characterization of biologics by ELISA, BLI/SPR, and SE-HPLC, LC-MS and other methods
- Experience with mammalian tissue culture, cell line engineering, or cell-based assays is a plus
- Experience using phage or yeast display for antibody discovery or molecular evolution is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in team-based environment.
