Our international Automation Engineering team is looking for a new talent, starting at the earliest possible time as Automation Engineer (m/f/d).

Location: Leipzig (Wiederitzsch)

Temporary contract due to maternity leave replacement

What You Will Do

  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, usability and quality of existing systems and workflows in operations.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of workflow improvements in operations.
  • Script automated workflows on robotic liquid handlers.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves mechanical and instrumentation problems.
  • Develop, evaluate and test customized automation technologies/ platforms.
  • Adhere to the software development processes.
  • Work collaboratively with lab staff to build efficient automated laboratory workflow.
  • Provides automation support by coding utilities, responding to user questions, and resolving problems.
  • Development of best practices resulting in standardized and streamlined processes and efficient use of resources.
  • Responsible for efficient integration of laboratory equipment into a LIMS system.
  • Operation, calibration, and maintenance of equipment, as assigned.
  • Developing and providing training manuals, SOPs, hands-on teaching.
  • Support existing instrumentation software by programming and testing various robotic liquid handling systems.
  • Analyze, design, and develop presentation vehicles including reports, queries and analytics as specified.
  • Work in an agile environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

  • B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Life Sciences or Engineering discipline.
  • Several years of hands-on assay automation and liquid handling experience.
  • Expert ability to create, validate, optimize and maintain liquid handling processes on robotic workstations.
  • Experience with programming automated systems (e.g., Hamilton Star, Hamilton Vantage, Beckman FX/NX, Tecan Evo).
  • Experience in converting bench top or semi-automated into fully automated assays.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality control standards in a laboratory environment is a plus.
  • Ability to design, document and communicate complex laboratory workflows and requirements to a cross functional team.
  • Strong experience with relevant software languages such as C#, Java, SQL, LabView.
  • Understanding of relational databases including design of data models and facility with SQL.
  • Experience with the automation of genomics, proteomics workflows.
  • Professional knowledge and working experience with integration of laboratory equipment to laboratory information systems (LIMS).
  • Strong understanding of laboratory techniques and assay development.
  • Familiarity with high-throughput screening methodologies.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Energetic and self-motivated. Able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Fluent written and spoken in German and English, good knowledge of another language is a plus.
