Job Description
Dr. Hannah Meyer at the Simons Center for Quantitative Biology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) invites applications for a Computational Science Developer.
The Meyer lab studies how the organization of the thymus and the cells therein provide effective education system for T cells through genomics and mathematical modeling. For more information on our research program, see https://meyer-lab-cshl.github.io/
We are looking for a candidate with a background in Computational Biology/Computer Science/Applied Mathematics with a strong interest in applying their skills to answer biological questions. The successful candidate will work on developing machine learning models to understand the regulation of gene expression in the thymus. This is a long-standing research question and thymus researchers have collected many molecular datasets to study the differences. A unifying model that combined the insights from these independent studies and would allow us to understand global differences in the regulation that are missing. A machine learning model taking these independent datasets and learning sequence-function relationships is well suited to fill this gap. In addition, the candidate will work in close collaboration with experimental members of our team and aid in their data analysis (e.g. RNAseq, ChIPseq)
Requirements
Strong background in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology preferred, with at least a BS in Biology, Bioinformatics or Computer Science, and with extensive computational programming experience. Must be able to work efficiently and independently and must have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Experience with Linux/Unix environments is required. Expertise with multiple scripting/programming languages (Python/R, C/C++/Java) is required. Experience with existing bioinformatics tools, databases and software is preferred, with a strong preference for experience with workflow development (snakemake, nextflow) and bioinformatics analysis of sequencing data (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, WES, etc).
