Senior Manager, Risk Governance and Audit Data Scientist

Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, Risk Governance and Audit, this newly created position will take a leading role to further develop the department’s advanced data analytics capabilities to include leveraging AI/ML to audit. Our Risk Governance and Audit team objectively and independently aggregates enterprise risk metrics and performs audits of financial operations, business processes and information systems to identify risks, related controls, and recommendations for improvement and issue resolution.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the SME for AI/ML, Gen AI, LLM, educate department staff, and actively monitor industry standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify and obtain access to sources of structured and unstructured data, collaborate with the team to create analyses and visualizations available data to support audit objectives, and apply advanced data analytics methods to generate insights assist with planning, examinations and testing of internal controls.

  • Propose, evaluate, and implement suitable AI/ML models to support use cases for AI-supported audits and risk insights.

  • Support enhancement of standard Tableau models and data automation in the SAP environment.

  • Partner with Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit to further understanding of the ethics and risks of using AI and support the evaluation of AI/ML governance frameworks.

  • Collaborate with data scientists across the enterprise to understand current and emerging uses of AI and support the identification and assessment of potential risks and controls.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience plus a BA/BS in a relevant field, OR 6+ years and MS/MA/MBA

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with diverse, multi-disciplinary business stakeholders as part of a global organization.

  • Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools (Tableau preferred) and programming languages (e.g., Python, R, and SQL).

  • Demonstrated experience with application of advanced statistical analysis (e.g., cluster analysis, network analysis, predictive models) to address business problem statements or to support business decision-making.

  • Exceptional analytical skills to identify the risks and controls within operational processes and visualize data to support the effectiveness of identified controls.

  • Strong communication, reporting and presentation skills to be able to summarize and present complex concepts with clarity and tailored for diverse recipients.

  • Experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industries is a plus


The salary range for this position is: $154,020.00 - $199,320.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
