Job Description

Director - Data Acquisition, Clinical Data Science

Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. This position is office based at our Stockley Park or Cambridge sites in the UK

This role reports to the Head of Gilead data office, RWE Generation, Clinical Data Science and is based at different Gilead sites. This individual has responsibility for acquiring all data across clinical, development, medical affairs function and Gilead affiliates. This individual will work in close collaboration with the Development organization, Commercial, Procurement, Medical Affairs, IT, and other functions at Gilead in implementing data acquisition processes and is expected to operate with a “one Gilead” mindset & play a key role in the global Gilead Data Office set up.

Key Responsibilities:

Operationalize Gilead Data Office, in sync with Enterprise efforts .

  • Own data strategy & acquisition workstreams from end to end which includes but not limited to collaborate with other functional leads to developed and implement a harmonized data acquisition process, data on-boarding, and utilization considerations, acquiring budgets, working with vendor partners for creating long term partnerships as well as running proof of concept analytical projects.

  • Responsible for access and governance of all data asset for the medical and clinical data science team

  • Set up processes for (secondary) data lifecycle management

  • Support operating model and change management considerations for data governance across the enterprise

  • Participate in Data Governance council meetings to address queries and understand upcoming features/data assets.

  • Establish data as an enterprise asset by x-functional partnering & serving as the data steward / expert across the enterprise

  • Lead the interaction with end users to gather business requirements / metrics and communicate value of the data acquired.

  • Drive quarterly / yearly data strategy sessions

  • Develop best-in-class data strategy model for product launches

  • Responsible for all governance conversations and contracting for data partners in collaboration with commercial data strategy

  • Build business cases for new and exploratory data assets

  • Drive analytical proof of concepts for new data assets and establish long term partnerships for successful POCs.

  • Partners with IT, Analytics and other Global RWD stakeholders relevant to the data office and assist in value assessment of data assets

  • Explore new technologies to innovate and help other team members in areas of data investigations, data conflicts, manual data steward queue etc.

  • Work closely with legal and contracting to ensure both commercial and medical use cases are described appropriately

Ensure Data Quality, Privacy and Protection

  • Author, publish & own key data governance policies (e.g. Data Quality, Data Definition, Data Creation), in collaboration with cross functional data governance council

  • Partner with legal and compliance to account for and uphold diverse privacy and compliance requirements across geographies

  • Operationalize technology and process-based protections for data integrity, privacy, and regulatory compliance, including assurances for analysis validity

  • Be abreast of changing regulations relating to pharmaceutical data and ensure compliance with regulations from the systems and data consumption perspective

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical and qualitative information to non-technical executives through interpersonal, verbal, and written channels.

  • Understanding/awareness of the Pharmaceutical business model (Product Development, Marketing, Sales, Sales Operations, Marketing Analytics, Medical Affairs, Contracting etc)

  • Excellent influencing and networking skills paired with stakeholder management experience in a multi-layered global environment

  • Experience with Cloud platforms (like AWS) preferred

  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to drive large and complex cross-functional projects and sustain them long term.

  • Ability to work with and coordinate demands from multiple internal customers; highly collaborative

  • Ability to recognize and interpret business issues/opportunities and recommend solutions through analysis / proof of concepts.

  • Ability to present complex information in an accurate and persuasive manner to all levels of management.

  • Deep knowledge of pharmaceutical data

  • Availability to travel internationally as required

Minimum Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with significant experience with extensive knowledge of pharma data and technologies; or MBA/MS with extensive knowledge of pharma data and technologies.

  • Previous RWE / Data Strategy and/or Business Technology experience.
