Description:

Who we are:

The Gladstone Institutes is a distinguished independent, not-for-profit research institution dedicated to advancing human health through cutting-edge medical research and education. Our work spans neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, immunology, and stem cell biology, with a focus on overcoming disease. With a team of approximately 600 members, including renowned leaders in science and biomedicine, Gladstone operates across five institutes, alongside various centers and programs. Located at the Mission Bay Campus in an award-winning building, Gladstone offers competitive salaries and benefits, providing an optimal environment for individuals to realize their full potential and make a meaningful impact on global health

About the role:

The Jain Lab is at the forefront of using cutting-edge systems biology and metabolic approaches to address fundamental questions related to how organisms interact with their environment. That is, how does our genetic background interact with dietary metabolites (vitamin cofactors, minerals, etc.) and environmental variables to affect health and disease. Our lab has pioneered the integration of CRISPR-based genetic screens with advanced systems metabolism to uncover new pathways that regulate oxygen and vitamin metabolism. This work has already led to breakthroughs in our understanding of disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies. Now, we're seeking a highly motivated and skilled Staff Research Scientist to join our dynamic team and help push the boundaries of what's possible by "turning the oxygen and vitamin dials." Check out our lab website for more info: https://www.ishajainlab.com/

What you will do:

  • Optimize and perform large-scale genetic screens using CRISPR/Cas9 technology to identify novel therapeutic targets.
  • Develop and implement innovative methods to enhance genetic screening and data interpretation.
  • Analyze high-throughput datasets to uncover new mechanistic insights and generate testable hypotheses.
  • Collaborate with lab members to design experiments focused on oxygen and vitamin metabolism, with applications in mitochondrial disease and other areas.
  • Contribute to high-impact publications and present findings at internal and external conferences.
  • Mentor junior lab members and foster a collaborative, cutting-edge research
  • environment.

What you will need:

  • 7+ years of related experience for individuals with a BS/BA
  • PhD preferred in genetics, systems biology, molecular biology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years postdoctoral experience in a biomedical and/or research and development environment
  • Extensive experience with CRISPR-based genetic screening and functional genomics.
  • Proficiency in analyzing large datasets and developing mechanistic hypotheses.
  • A strong publication record showcasing impactful research.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary setting.
  • Passion for exploring complex biological questions and translating discoveries into therapeutic advances.

Why you want to work with us:

At the Jain Lab, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Be part of a lab that’s revolutionizing our understanding of metabolism and disease. Contribute to research with direct clinical implications for mitochondrial diseases and other conditions.
  • Work in a supportive, innovative environment that encourages publication and career development.
  • Collaborate with world-class researchers and leverage state-of-the-art technologies.
