Job Purpose

As the Senior Manager, Head of Procurement you will be at the forefront of driving GSK’s purpose to unite science, technology, and talent to get ahead of disease together. You will do so by partnering with Indirect spend owners across all GSK business lines, and establishing strategic relationships with our suppliers.

The Senior Manager will be part of the Europe Procurement regional team. The primary scope of responsibility will be to partner the Global Vaccines Commercial teams (Market Research, CI, Market Access, PR etc.) and the Netherlands LOC across Pharmaceuticals, ViiV and Vaccines (Indirect spend including but not limited to HR, Corporate Services, Omnichannel Marketing, Sales…) with a total managed spend of c. 50m£. Based on business requirements, the Senior Manager, Procurement accountabilities could extend to supporting critical projects in the wider Northern & Western Europe area, part of Europe Commercial organization (composed of Nordics, BeNeLux and Ireland).

To get Ahead Together, the senior manager will be responsible for:

  • ensuring input to, and alignment with the creation of global sourcing strategies, according to local stakeholders and local markets dynamics. This in partnership with regional category team and the Global category teams.
  • leading large-scale, cross business unit projects to deliver solutions that are most ambitious for patients
  • Identifying and delivering business benefits aligned to assurance of supply, quality, service, cost and innovation and delivering stakeholders and business partner requirements through execution of category strategies.
  • Driving operational efficiencies by ensuring Contract & Preferred Supplier list compliance as well as managing the Tail spend.
  • Delivering effective budgets (Plans of Purchase) agreed with key stakeholders and Finance in accordance with the Spend Management Framework and aligned to the global budgets together with Global and Regional category team.

Your responsibilities:

Strategy execution

  • You will align with appropriate Hub and Global category teams and work in collaboration with these teams to provide local business requirements and market information to support effective collaborative regional and global strategy creation and execution
  • You will execute global sourcing strategies for multiple spend categories in scope of responsibility, operating with a truly global mindset and ensuring all applicable LOC or regional dimensions are accommodated
  • You will have a clear understanding of how global strategies affect local markets and build an education & communication process for regional Procurement leads and business units. Be the local expert in the spend categories within scope of responsibility

Benefit delivery

  • You will ensure financial benefits are managed in accordance with the Spend Management Framework approach, ensuring business unit and Finance agreement to financial value delivered and transparency on treatment of benefits in the budgeting process
  • You will create and deliver effective budgets (Plans of Purchase) agreed with key stakeholders and Finance in accordance with the Spend Management Framework

Business partnering & stakeholder management in GSK

  • You will build strategic relationships with local GSK stakeholders (including General Managers, Finance Directors, Vaccines Commercial Leads etc.), to understand business requirements, identify opportunities to create value and to position Procurement’s value proposition. Align sourcing strategies accordingly
  • You will influence key stakeholders and business partners to support strategy development, endorse recommended strategies, support execution and agree how benefit delivery will be budgeted

External supplier relationships

  • You will execute and manage effective contracts with suppliers that will allow GSK to maximize opportunity globally. Ensure global views on supplier negotiations are taken
  • You will manage global and local supply base for the categories within scope through a robust performance management process. Ensure supplier performance is understood and measured.
  • You will ensure suitable processes and communication links exist between above country supplier organization structures and local & regional networks to ensure effective process and communication cascade through supplier and GSK network and geographies

Basic Qualifications

Knowledge/ Education / Previous Experience Required

  • Significant procurement experience in a highly regulated industry
  • Experienced in the design and delivery of sourcing strategies
  • Work agility

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of managing international and cross-functional projects
  • Successfully implemented transformational initiatives including evidence of change management capability
  • Evidence of design and implementation of compelling business cases through qualitative and financial impact assessment
  • Strong Influencing skills (English fluency required) and executive communication experience
  • Evidence of proficient communication and influence at senior level in a complex matrix international organisation
  • Ability to nurture a complex network of internal and external stakeholders
