GlaxoSmithKline is a world leading research-based pharmaceutical company that combines both individual talent and technical resources to create a platform for the delivery of strong growth in a rapidly changing healthcare market. Our mission is to improve the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer.
The Respiratory & Immunology Research Unit (RIRU) at GSK comprises multidisciplinary biology teams that utilize deep scientific knowledge and technical capabilities to identify and validate novel therapeutic targets and undertake drug discovery efforts from early stage through to phase 1 clinical trials.
We are seeking to hire a highly motivated biologist to fill an Investigator position in the Respiratory & Immunology Biology Unit (RIBU) within RIRU at GSK R&D in Upper Providence, PA. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team to establish and characterize cellular models derived from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), and to perform genetic perturbations (KD, KO, KI, overexpression) in iPSC-derived cells for drug discovery applications. The scientist will have the opportunity to work on targets and pathways relevant to a variety of human diseases and therapeutic areas including neuroscience, liver, renal, and metabolic diseases.
Job functions:
- Function as a technical expert in iPSC culturing, establishing and optimizing iPSC differentiation into cell types.
- Perform QC assays for characterization of iPSC-derived cellular models including immunocytochemistry, FACS analysis, and RT-qPCR using a variety of laboratory instruments and computer softwares.
- Conduct experiments to achieve high efficiency genetic manipulation (KD, KO, overexpression) in iPSC-derived cells.
- Collaborate with internal colleagues and external CROs to establish/transfer procedures for iPSC culturing and differentiation.
- Commit to continual improvement by reading and applying the latest scientific literature, methodologies and technologies
- Comply with all standards and practices of data integrity, ethics, and safety
