The Director will be part of the Europe Procurement regional team. The scope of responsibility will be Germany, across Pharmaceuticals, ViiV and Vaccines business (Indirect spend focusing on Commercial and Support Functions, mainly HR & Corporate Categories). The team is currently composed of 2 people (Head of Procurement and senior manager), with a managed spend ~ £120M.

To brilliantly succeed in this position, the Director will set up relevant procurement strategies, strategic sourcing and negotiation initiatives in line with the strategies, and leading large-scale, cross business unit projects. The Director will also partner with the local stakeholders across the various areas of the business. Additionally, this individual will need to collaborate with our matrix global category Procurement team colleagues to ensure optimization of our global buying power with local business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Business partnering & stakeholder management

  • Position the Procurement value proposition, on local, area and global levels
  • Strategically engage with and understand the business requirements of stakeholders and business partners to be able to represent the needs of local stakeholders and market dynamics and to inform procurement strategies that enable the achievement of GSK business objectives

Strategy creation & execution

  • Work with the category teams to create comprehensive global and area sourcing strategies for spend categories (Marketing, Sales, & Tech; Corporate Categories; and some areas of Facilities and Logistics), operating with a truly global/regional and strategic mindset and in close collaboration
  • Have a clear understanding of how global strategies affect local markets and how global and local strategies align
  • Be the area and local expert in the spend categories within scope of responsibility

Benefit delivery

  • Deliver area benefits identified in strategies through effective strategy execution aligned to assurance of supply (risk management), quality, service, cost and innovation
  • Partner with Finance to ensure visibility to planned spend and impact of value delivery to business budgets
  • Ensure GSK company and Procurement policies, procedures, processes, systems and methodologies are utilized in a compliant manner in the area of responsibility
  • Drive operational efficiencies by ensuring optimization of GSK supply base and source-to-pay strategies
  • Accountable for supporting relevant M&A activity as necessary, including managing efficient integration as required.

External supplier relationships

  • Build strategic relationships with key suppliers and lead processes to ensure value is driven from these relationships. Ensure global and local considerations are accounted for in supplier relationships. Leverage Supplier Relationship Management processes to drive relationships.
  • Negotiate, create, execute and manage effective global and local contracts with suppliers (where required) that will allow GSK to maximize opportunity globally.

People leadership

  • Lead, manage and develop team of professional procurement staff to facilitate delivery of the primary role purpose described above:
    - Direct reports, indirect reports, matrix reports
    - Develop capability of GSK colleagues - technical, leadership and behavioral
    - Lead improvements in team performance
    - Attract, develop and retain a strong talent base

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • University Degree (Master or equivalent)
  • Business or related degree programs; alternate areas of specialization acceptable when paired with relevant business experience
  • Significant experience in procurement, ideally in pharma or another highly regulated industry
  • Very good experience in leading, inspiring and developing team
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Research, business acumen, financial acumen, and analytical skills required to develop solutions to complex problems and analyze complex financial proposals
  • Proven negotiations and contract management skills
  • Fluent German language and English proficiency (written and oral)
