Job purpose:

Your role will be to strategically partner with the Senior Vice Presidents and Leadership Teams of Technical R&D, Clinical Lab & Assay Portfolio (CL&AP), and Strategic Business Operations (SBO) – functions that are key to tackling Viral, Therapeutic, and Bacterial research challenges. With a £267m budget and 1,400 team members, these functions are pushing the boundaries of science and technology, and you’ll play a critical role in shaping their success.

You will be the Financial Architect of Innovation: Provide expert financial counsel and leadership to ensure the efficient deployment of resources, balancing financial trade-offs while unlocking the potential of cutting-edge science. You will Drive Strategic Decisions: Shape the future of vaccine development by evaluating and articulating the value of new facilities and equipment across Belgium, the US, and Italy. Your insights will enable smarter investments, better results, and reduced costs. You will Be a Catalyst for Progress: Proactively identify and lead transformative improvements within the functions. Help these teams articulate the baseline costs and operational drivers of running world-class activities across multiple sites. You will Champion the Financial Plan: Own the annual financial planning process, monitoring progress and driving impact. Your work will directly demonstrate the value of investments in facilities, equipment, and modernization efforts. You will Collaborate Across Boundaries: Work hand-in-hand with colleagues in Manufacturing, R&D, and Asset Finance to ensure that the capabilities and capacity required to deliver new medicines and vaccines are in place.

Your responsibilities:

  • Work independently, leading Finance Partnering support to the aforementioned functions, providing strategic financial leadership, i.e., developing and executing long-term financial plans aligned with organizational goals; collaborating with senior leadership to guide strategic decisions, providing financial insights and recommendations and evaluating capital expenditures, and other strategic investments to ensure value creation

  • Oversee, and lead the annual budgeting & forecasting process, i.e., lead the preparation of budgets, ensuring alignment with the organization's objectives; provide accurate and timely projections, anticipating challenges and opportunities and monitor financial performance against budgets, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions

  • Lead and contribute to more robust performance monitoring & analysis with regular tracking of key performance indicators to measure financial and operational success, initiating and overseeing cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality and operational efficiency and driving strategies to enhance operational efficiency (incl. automation)

  • Assist functional leaders and leadership teams in articulating the cost drivers of their respective activities and proactively identifying systems, facilities & process optimization designed to increase productivity or operational efficiency

  • Support the development of the financial and business acumen of the leadership teams of the functions by explaining key financial concepts and how their actions can contribute to improved business performance

  • Drive connections with Research, MDS and other functions to optimise decision making, resource allocation and performance across R&D acting as a role model for enterprise thinking.

Why You?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting (or qualified by experience)

  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in similar Finance management / leadership roles

  • Experience as a Finance Partner in the pharmaceutical sector in a business unit environment

  • Track record of driving sound business decision making in relation to complex problems based on robust, impartial financial analysis.

  • Track record of setting and delivering financial plans

  • Fluency in English written and spoken

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Experience as a Finance Partner in R&D

  • Ability to work in a complex and fast-moving environment with multiple priorities

  • Ability to connect with and influence business stakeholders at all levels in a technical environment.

  • Strong skills in modelling, analysis, forecasting, strategic / scenario planning, and decision making. Some project management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to bridge communications gap between finance and non-finance

  • Understanding of financial systems and processes including SAP.

  • Fluency in French written and spoken.
