The RSC Blending department sits within the Respiratory Supply Chain (RSC) at the GSK Ware Manufacturing site and is responsible for performing a variety of tasks relating to manufacture of GSK’s respiratory products.

The purpose of the Blending Operator is sieving, dispensing and mixing of dry powders for the manufacture of respiratory products (and completing associated documentation).

Key Elements (of the role):

  • To set up batches for the Blending, Comil Suite, , Sieving and Dispensing Room (booking materials on computer systems, physically bringing the batch materials on line, setting up batch information on printers etc); to make adjustments to the Blending process to ensure compliance with the batch documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Work Instructions (SWIs).

  • To reconcile product and components used during a batch, investigate discrepancies and to complete all final batch transactions and documentation checks. To sign off batches as accurate and complete prior to forwarding to QA (Quality Assurance)

  • During production, and with reference to SOPs and SWIs, to monitor Blending equipment and environmental conditions. To respond to and take appropriate actions to remedy or escalate any problems or deviations.

  • To take samples on a technical request basis (as detailed in SOPs and batch documentation)

  • To perform all daily and weekly checks and critical device challenges to ensure the Blending equipment, room pressure differentials and ancillary equipment operate within specification.

  • To perform batch reconciliations and complete all batch-related documentation accurately, including use of company IT systems (M-ERP, IP21, MyLearning, Environmental Monitoring System (EMS), eBRS, planning spreadsheets and team sites, Material Safety Data Sheets, SWIs and SOPs). The process of reconciliation.

  • Ensures that all materials brought in area are accounted for at the end of the batch, and prevents cross contamination of subsequent batches.

  • To carry out stock checks of product and consumables. To accurately dispense product for both internal and external customers. To create internal and external labels and to label materials and finished product ready for onward supply.

  • To operate hand pallet trucks and trolleys.

  • To palletize and shrink wrap batches prior to collection by Warehouse, R&D or Mitie

  • To dismantle, clean and reassemble Blender, Comil, Sieving and dispensing to required SOP standards and perform line clearances between batches to ensure there is no cross-contamination of product and/or materials to subsequent batches.

  • When not operating a Blending, Comil, , Sieving and Dispensing, to act in a support role to ensure continuous production is maintained; also re-supplying the Blending Suite and, Dispensing and Sieving Room, with components and materials; assisting with batch changes, cleaning and line clearance; taking part in departmental projects.

  • To take on additional roles within the department, as agreed with the manager in accordance with the area Team Plan. Additional roles in the Blending department are:

  • Author (SOP and/or Standard Work Instruction),

  • QMS Reviewer,

  • Safety Assessor (Noise, Manual Handling, Ergonomic, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health [COSHH]),

  • Stores (Dealing with deliveries, ordering materials/consumables),

  • To carry out chemical swabbing of equipment

Shift Pattern: This role currently operates on DD (Double-Days – Earlies & Lates) shift pattern (that operates 16/5 – during the week).

About You:

This role would suit a self-motivated person who has experience of working in a complex manufacturing organization (ideally with prior Blending manufacturing experience). You will be hard-working and resilient, with strong people skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

About Ware Manufacturing Site:

We are co-located with our R&D colleagues and recently opened a new, state-of-the-art oral solid dose facility at Ware. At this location our scientists, technicians and engineers (from R&D and Global Supply Chain – GSC) work collaboratively together (using the latest technologies) to rapidly knowledge transfer and deliver GSK’s most innovative, medicines faster and more efficiently. On site we produce over 60 million respiratory inhalers each year with growing demand in future years. The site also processes Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) for use both on site and other manufacturing sites in our network.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ideally you will have relevant manufacturing/production experience (ideally gained from working in a Blending environment).

  • A good standard of numeracy and literacy is essential (eg; GCSE Mathematics & English or equivalent).

  • Basic computer literacy.
