Job Description
About the Role:
The Bioinformatics Software Engineer II will help design and develop web services, applications, products, and APIs that reach Guardant Health’s stakeholders and customers. This individual will participate in all aspects of software development, including user requirement gathering, system design, implementation, testing, and production software release and support.
The Bioinformatics Software Engineer II will actively participate as a team member on projects to develop our life-science informatics system and clinical sample processing pipeline. You will work with a multi-disciplinary group of product managers, front-end developers, QA, systems engineers, and designers to architect and create functional, useful, and elegant web services, APIs, and backend pipeline software.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze, test, and develop efficient and scalable solutions that align with business and product needs
- Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and scalable services essential to delivering value to our patients.
- Collaborate with product management to turn product requirements into production code
- Help maintain code and design quality, drive organization-wide technical and architectural improvements
- Build out small-medium scale solution autonomously, and larger scale issues with the help of Senior employees
- Proficient technical knowledge of current application stack and tools used by team with continued growth in learning new tools or skillsets
- Debug, maintain, and upgrade issues in existing software
- Develop and maintain automated tests for regular releases
- Collaborate with the team and contribute to improving SDLC and engineering processes
Qualifications
- 3 -5 years experience in software development
- 2+ years experience developing production software in Python, or TypeScript preferred
- 2+ years experience developing internal RESTful APIs and data integration layers preferred
- Provide written documentation and specifications of software
products and services. Preferably in a regulated environment such as
IVD or CLIA. - Knowledge of front-end web languages/protocols (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, JQuery, etc)
- Knowledge of Data Driven Applications and database design, manipulation, and queries, including MySQL
- Good understanding of Test Driven Development, Automation, and Continuous Integration
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, or related areas preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Experience working in a rapid-pace startup environment
Additional Information
Hybrid Work Model: At Guardant Health, we have defined days for in-person/onsite collaboration and work-from-home days for individual-focused time. All U.S. employees who live within 50 miles of a Guardant facility will be required to be onsite on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $96,400 to $130,100. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations for the posted role with the exception of any locations specifically referenced below (if any).
For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $120,500 to $162,600. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.
Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. If you are selected to move forward, the recruiting team will provide details specific to the factors above.
Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment. Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
