Responsibilities

The Manufacturing Engineer will lead initiatives to define system level manufacturing improvements. This position defines categorical improvements for cost, yield, OEE, and efficiencies, and justifies, plans, designs, optimizes manufacturing processes, and coordinates strategic initiatives with external integrators. This position will be instrumental in defining, specifying, and launching improved automation with a greater team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and execute production improvement projects from concept to implementation. Aggressively drive change and improvements to cost, quality, availability, and rate; review, analyze, and implement new products or design concepts for manufacturability; ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, performance, and manufacturing standards; and document and defend recommended changes and solutions.
  • Maintain assembly documentation, BOM’s and production routings, all with an eye towards future improvements.
  • Maintain current manufacturing process and provide insight into driving change and lead initiatives. Includes documentation, ensuring metrics are achieved, and training manufacturing operators and engineers.
  • Evaluate and understand operational cost for equipment and processes in assigned areas of responsibility, including yield, scrap, manpower, & rate.
  • Troubleshoot production floor issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee internal manufacturing quality and external customer experience quality in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Document performed tasks, including project descriptions, technical specifications, testing data, and implementation notes.
  • Facilitate work within company's internal systems (ECO's, IS, MRP and CAD software etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical understanding of mechanics, and electromechanical equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, determine root cause, and develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated success as a leader.
  • Demonstrated success driving significant change to production processes and equipment.
  • Well-versed in initiating project proposals and executing projects to completion.
  • Experience improving flow and implementing Lean processes.
  • Experience successfully concepting, specifying, designing, and/or implementing automation equipment and capital projects, then managing to desired OEE.
  • Experience documenting instructions, equipment documentation, preventative maintenance plans, and recovery plans.
  • Understanding of glass hot-working, glass decoration, machine shop tools, and metal fabrication of wire components a plus.
  • Ability to quickly learn, adopt, and implement new technology.
  • Ability to see areas of improvement, problem-solve, and pursue solutions to completion.
  • Ability to prioritize projects based on organizational directives and impact.
  • Team player with the ability to mentor/coach others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, industrial or similar Engineering or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing or equipment engineering position at a production facility required.
  • Experience improving flow and implementing Lean processes.
  • Experience successfully concepting, specifying, designing, and/or implementing automation equipment and capital projects, then managing to desired OEE.
  • Experience documenting instructions, equipment documentation, preventative maintenance plans, and recovery plans.
  • Experience or certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Kaizen preferred.
  • PLC and software programming preferred.
