Position Summary:

As a member of the Public Relations team within Corporate Communications, the [Social Media role] will be responsible for developing and managing the Illumina corporate (organic) social media program and coordinating across the communications and marketing functions to optimize our strategic impact.

This role requires experience leading social media strategy and a detailed understanding of best practices, tools, analytics and social technology as well as all native, global platforms (X, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, WeChat, and beyond).

The candidate must demonstrate a clear ability to develop overall strategy, tactics and campaigns that support overall PR and business goals and lead to earned media, audience growth, owned engagement, acquisition, reach, and more. A deep understanding of company voice, tone, brand style and creative are critical, and the candidate will need to maintain clear understanding and familiarity with the company, competitors, PR priorities, our corporate narrative and brand, and the overall genomics landscape.

*This person must reside in San Diego and commute to our La Jolla HQ on an as needed basis. Illumina offers hybrid work arrangements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead for Illumina’s social media program for the corporate (organic) social media channels, including working with two team members and an agency partner who together plan, coordinate and schedule social media posts and monitor and respond to comments, questions, and other engagement opportunities in social media.
  • Reporting to the Director, Public Relations, collaborate closely with the PR and communications function, including social media specialists within the team
  • Align with corporate priorities in social media, working directly with key internal stakeholders to build out social media strategies
  • With the team, engage with customers and the broader Illumina community in social media and respond to/escalate comments and requests
  • Solidify and regulate Illumina’s brand voice on social media, including ensuring content excellence
  • Work with cross-functional teams to maintain the corporate social media editorial calendar
  • Keep an eye on the pulse of the media landscape and the activities of key opinion leaders (KOLs) to identify and surface reactive opportunities on social media
  • Analyze web traffic, brand sentiment and relevant social platform metrics
  • Relay community feedback to Corporate Communications leadership and relevant internal stakeholders; elevate issues as needed
  • Foster strong relationships between Illumina and customers, media, and other KOLs in social media
  • Liaise with other Illumina functions – including marketing, internal communications, corporate social responsibility, and global regions – to drive content and strategy alignment with talent, employee, and marketing initiatives and product and service developments. Collaborate with Brand team to ensure brand consistency.
  • Build ongoing awareness of the latest social media strategies and tactics through industry organizations and relevant development opportunities
  • Align with key stakeholders to identify success metrics for social media campaigns

Requirements:

  • At least seven (7) years of experience in managing global social media communities and driving engaging programs on multiple channels, with experience in life sciences, biotech, and/or a highly regulated environment preferred
  • Experience managing agency partner relationships
  • Strong writing skills – especially for social media platforms
  • Ability to identify, track, interpret and report relevant social media metrics and present them to colleagues at all levels
  • Clear and proactive communicator with ability to manage the needs of multiple stakeholders, including C-Suite

The estimated base salary range for the Social Media Strategist (Hybrid) role based in the United States of America is: $126,800 - $190,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
