Staff Bioinformatics Engineer

Responsibilities:
Work independently in cross-functional teams, including software, bioinformatics, and domain experts and direct design, implementation, and improvement of data pipelines.
Partner with genomic experts and laboratory operations to design, develop, and maintain data platforms that produce large NGS datasets.
Lead integration of relevant data from various data sources into a centralized and unified datastore and ensure data is accurate, timely, and appropriately structured for downstream analysis.
Expert in design and implementation of data models that meet business requirements, optimizing for performance and storage efficiency.
Manage and perform root-cause analysis and troubleshooting.
Prepare necessary test artifacts required for formal software / product release
Participate in Code and Design Reviews
Ensure Software Development Life Cycle procedures are followed
Collaborate with peers to identify opportunities for process improvement and various projects
Requirements:
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.
Strong programming and Linux scripting; demonstrated ability to write readable, well-documented and unit-tested code.
Extensive experience with RDBMS data modeling and databases such as MySQL, MS-SQL, Postgres preferred.
Experience structuring bioinformatics and genomic data for timeliness and utility.
Experience with one or more static-typed programming languages such as Golang, Java or C# strongly preferred.
Experience with cloud-based datastores such as Snowflake.
Knowledge of CI/CD chains such as Git, Docker, K8s and TeamCity (or Jenkins).
Knowledge with cloud systems for processing NGS data.
Familiarity with AWS Services, S3, EC2, IAM, SNS, SQS.
Familiarity with Kafka or similar messaging service.
Must have proficient written, communication and presentation skills with the ability to present to both scientific and corporate audiences.
Must be independent and strategically-minded.
