The Graduate Software Engineer for Leica Biosystems is responsible for delivering enhancements and fixes for a mature client-server software application whilst meeting medical device regulatory requirements.

This position is part of the R&D Software Engineering group located in Mount Waverley, Melbourne and will be on-site.

You will be a part of the Software Engineering team and report to the Senior Software Engineering Manager responsible for full software development lifecycle activities. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in all Scrum events to transform the product backlog into working software increments.
  • Participate in design activities and implementation (develop code, refactor code, debug, unit test and manually test your code).
  • Participate in verification activities, including defining test strategies, tools, mocks, reviewing test cases, developing automated tests, and manual testing.
  • Investigate and fix software anomalies (defects)
  • Author and review software engineering documentation, including specifications, design documents, release documents, plans, etc.
  • Understand and adhere to Leica Biosystems Quality Management System procedures.
  • Proactively participate in continuous improvement activities.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • No prior industry experience required. Graduate or post-graduate qualifications in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent qualification)
  • Understanding of the full SDLC (analysis, planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, ensuring you can clearly articulate your ideas, while actively listening and understanding others' perspectives.
  • Demonstrated team player who thrives working collaboratively.
  • Willingness to take on any task and learn the skills and capabilities required.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Programming experience with C# .Net
  • Committed to your own development to grow and expand your skill set.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, best practices and technologies
