At our site in Alexandria, Minnesota, we design, manufacture, test and provide service support of LGC, Biosearch Technologies laboratory instrumentation and consumables. Products produced and distributed from this location enable scientists to make the world a safer place and enables customers in areas such as developing and identifying new plant hybrids, testing and tracking of food products for food safety, and research to support human diagnostic testing. The Alexandria site represents a centre of excellence for Biosearch Technologies in the areas of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Field Service by supplying and supporting customers and team members around the world. Our services are accredited to the ISO 9001 quality standard.

Job Description

Lead a team in Nucleic Acid Chemistry Consumables Manufacturing at LGC’s Alexandria site, coordinating internal and external supply.

In this people manager role and owners of multiple workstreams, you will oversee a team focused on ensuring specific business deliverables are met. Your decisions will be based on the needs of each workstream, driving business results through effective communication, planning, monitoring, and appraising individual performance. You will recruit, hire, train, and manage team members, fostering their growth and ensuring talent management.

As a member of the Alexandria site Operations Leadership Team, you will create an environment of Operational Excellence and Safety within each workstream, owning production, quality, and improvement results. You will strategically position each workstream to meet current and future demands, responding to rapid growth opportunities in ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 environments.

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in or manage the hiring, training, and cross-training of staff to build a robust support system for production surges.
  • Ensure staff is adequately trained on all required procedures and verify training as needed.
  • Manage team priorities, aligning them with company and customer needs.
  • Ensure manufacturing priorities are met through effective management of shop orders, employee scheduling, maintenance activities, and equipment functionality.
  • Communicate and coordinate efficiently with customers, suppliers, and team members.
  • Maintain up-to-date work instructions to support standardized processes and continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership through performance evaluations, goal setting, coaching, and technical expertise.
  • Proactively collaborate with production groups, customers, and other LGC teams to identify and implement continuous improvement areas.
  • Research, implement, and maintain necessary equipment to meet organizational needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, business administration, Quality Control, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience in a related field, including management of manufacturing teams
  • Experience in an ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 certified QMS environment
  • Knowledge or training in Lean or Continuous Improvement concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and inventory management systems
  • Proven leadership skills in a consumables manufacturing environment
  • Experience in hiring, training, leading, and developing employees

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of industry experience and 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • Lean Green Belt certification

Additional Information

The typical pay range for this role is:

Minimum: $88,200 annually

Maximum: $147,000 annually

This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as: experience, skills, and location
