Provide leadership to procurement function for Lonza India whilst leading a team of procurement specialists and ensure timely provision of indirect material / spares / services, based on global supplies as well as local vendors for CHI in India. The incumbent provides support to business and global functions in India.

The incumbent manages and supports indirect spend management and ensures coordination of the day-to-day procurement activities across Lonza’s sites in India. Ensures business continuity and supply / availability of indirect materials and services for production by monitoring and improving supplier performance and by managing supplier relationships. Develop and implement savings projects, in alignment with Indirect Global Category Managers and local business stakeholders to contribute to achieving business goals and savings targets. Be aware of the supply market dynamics to ensure Lonza’s competitiveness. Provides procurement expertise in tendering, negotiation, contracting and procurement systems.

Key Responsibility

  • Lead a team of buyers and purchasing specialists and support them with supply market expertise and risk mitigation measures

  • Ensure the effective provision of complex, strategic material and services to meet site manufacturing needs, based on existing global or regional contracts

  • To develop new supply options and manage negotiations with selected suppliers for the complex category and medium to smaller, non-strategic items to meet site needs

  • Lead negotiations for contracts in India for warehousing for Lonza India

  • Resolve timely supplies issues through experience of managing international logistical supply challenges and regulatory compliances

  • Responsible for managing relationships with agencies, consultants for business continuity, sustainability, expansion projects. This is critical to business and growth plans in India.

  • Key interface with suppliers for all operational issues and responsible for supplier relationship and performance management of vendors.

  • Support Global Category Managers with category strategy development (e.g. provide site current and future business needs)

  • Support implementation and execution of indirect global and regional category strategies at site level

  • Provide procurement expertise in tendering, negotiation tactics, planning and contracting

  • Support global & regional sourcing efforts

  • Support the roll-out of new procurement policies / procedures and tools

  • Support the optimization of transactional costs & efficiency of procurement activities

  • Share best practices and synergies across sites

  • Support standardization of specifications across sites and regions

  • Track country savings performance and identify potential savings, risks & opportunities

  • Drive utilization of on-line catalogues, E-Auctions and other leading edge sourcing tools (e.g. Ariba)

  • Delivery of KPIs on savings for the team - Bring savings to Lonza by unit price reduction, commodity market performance, cost avoidance, volume rebates, value creations etc.

  • Lead the procurement of significant technical equipment items

  • Responsible for compliance with standard operating procedures and create guidelines locally to facilitate smooth procurement process. Adhere to strict audit requirements and maintain records for statutory and IFC Audits

  • Guides users across business and functions on standard procurement process and ensure compliance

  • Responsible for knowledge management, database management of vendors based on spend categories

  • Responsible for onboarding suppliers (existing and new) to the Responsible Sourcing initiatives (Sustainability and Decarbonization) and following up via corrective actions plans to ensure suppliers' compliance with Lonza's supplier code of conduct and other commitments (e.g., child labor, climate, biodiversity etc.)

Develop, manage and maintain procurement data:

Maintain cohesive and professional teamwork among procurement team and ensure seamless service to all stakeholders

Responsible for team development and learning interventions to develop capability of team

Maintain and monitor a consolidated and exhaustive overview of current supplier contracts

Work with Procurement analytics on continuously improving the accuracy of the spend cube and other key databases

Ensure commercial data is always up to date in the ERP system

Maintain and document local market knowledge that impact key spend categories

Oversee and support flow of information by customers / suppliers

Key requirements:

5-10 years of experience
Mechanical/Chemicals/ Engineering goods indirect material

Bachelors in mechanical/chemical

Masters in SCM/Operations/Procurement

Preferred from Pharma /Food Industry
