The Role
Moderna is seeking a talented, experienced, and motivated Automation Engineer, Clinical Biomarker Operations to join the Clinical Biomarker Automation group. This position emphasizes robotics-oriented solutions and cutting-edge automation technologies for laboratory processes. The role will focus on designing, integrating, and maintaining automation systems that utilize liquid handlers, advanced scheduling software, object-oriented programming, and seamless laboratory information management system (LIMS) integration.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Lead robotics integration projects: Develop, install, and troubleshoot robotics and automation solutions, including liquid handlers and robotic collaborative arms.
Optimize scheduling software: Design workflows using Thermo Fisher Momentum scheduling software to enable synchronized laboratory operations.
Develop protocols for liquid handlers: Build, optimize, and document methods for high-throughput assays using platforms like Hamilton, Tecan, or Beckman Coulter.
Integrate laboratory automation systems: Connect systems like Hamilton Venus with 3rd party components (e.g., VSpin Centrifuges, PlateLoc sealers) and ensure cohesive LIMS integration, particularly with LabVantage.
Implement advanced robotics: Deploy and maintain robotics collaborative arms and automated mobile robots (AMRs) to streamline sample movement and processing.
Provide troubleshooting and support: Ensure error recovery and system functionality through rapid diagnostics and technical resolutions.
Train users on automation systems: Educate and guide scientists and lab technicians on automated workflows, protocols, and robotic system capabilities.
Explore innovative technologies: Assess modern trends in robotics, liquid handling, and automated laboratory workflows to implement cutting-edge solutions.
Document processes and improvements: Maintain detailed records of method development and troubleshooting for compliance in clinical lab settings under GLP guidelines.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table
A Bachelor’s degree in biology, engineering, biotechnology, or a related field.
2+ years of hands-on experience with liquid handling robotics (e.g., Hamilton, Tecan, Beckman).
Expertise in servicing and troubleshooting liquid handling platforms, with experience in integrating external components (e.g., robotic arms, centrifuges, and sealers).
Familiarity with Thermo Fisher Momentum scheduling software and its role in lab automation.
Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Python, C++, Java) for developing automation scripts.
Demonstrated success in LIMS integration, particularly with LabVantage or equivalent systems.
Experience with AMRs and robotic collaborative arms in laboratory environments is highly desired.
Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities with a methodical, organized approach.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple concurrent projects.
Exceptional communication skills to engage with internal teams and external vendors effectively.
