Summary

Position Highlights

Registered pharmacy technician performs pharmacy tasks and duties as delegated by a licensed pharmacist that do not fall within the purview of Florida Statue 465.003(13). All such delegated acts will be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist who is responsible for all such acts performed by persons under his or her supervision as outlined in Florida Statue 465.014.

These supervised tasks and duties include but are not limited to: initiating or receiving communications with patient provider team members to facilitate patient care for: refill authorization requests, assisting in patient appointment review, medical records review, insurance authorization review, processing of prescriptions, including investigational medications utilized in clinical trials in compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and/or medications associated with Risk Evaluation Mitigation Strategies (REMS).

Registered Pharmacy technician may also perform assistance in the compounding, preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical and investigational preparations following USP standards and hospital policy, inventory stewardship, keeping records and making reports required by law, and processing of documents required by the hospital.

Ideal Candidate

Will have

  • A High School Diploma/GED – required
  • Must have graduated from an accredited Pharmacy Technician training program or have experience that qualifies them for licensure as outlined in Florida Statutes,Section 465.014.
  • Be a Registered Pharmacy Technician
  • Newly graduated from Pharmacy Technician Training program and/or less than 1 year as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT)
  • Experience with unit dose, pharmacy orders and inventory computer systems; I.V. admixtures is preferred (experience can include internship hours) – preferred

Responsibilities (not a complete list)

  • Medication Order Processing: Be able to transcribe medication orders into computerize medical record system ensuring all information is complete as required by protocol and policy. Be able to fully process prescriptions and new orders for checking by a pharmacist.
  • Fulfilling Medication Orders: Fills medication orders in the proper order of priority, accurately counted, with neat and accurate labels affixed to the preparation. Proper procedures and documentation in inventory management systems are used during the fulfillment of the medication order.
  • Non-sterile and sterile compounding of both non-hazardous and hazardous medications: Prepares parenteral dosage forms utilizing aseptic techniques in accordance with departmental policies, standards set forth in current USP, state & federal regulations and GCP guidelines for investigational medications.
  • Delivery of Medications: Prepares and delivers medication ensuring proper storage location requirements are met based on the stability needs of the product.
  • Quality Assurance: Performs routine quality assurance tasks, including checking extemporaneously manufactured medications, commercially available medications, I.V. solutions and equipment for expiration dates, recalls, or signs of deterioration.
  • Inventory Management: Receives medication and supplies in accordance with inventory control and purchasing policies. Helps to maintain all medication inventory levels within the predetermined stocking level, calling attention to needs for revision, or perpetual supply problems.
