Summary

Position Highlights:

Senior Paralegal will work to directly support the legal team of the OGC, effectively manage OGC files, documents and systems, and support legal/non-legal members in fulfilling the responsibilities of the OGC. This position will also be tasked with managing complex special projects as needed for OGC/Moffitt globally. This position will also be tasked with drafting and maintaining corporate governance documents and performing focused research projects.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • The legal services portion of duties will be to provide legal advice and counsel to Moffitt management and staff regarding bio-medical focused research, intellectual property, grants, ethics and regulatory compliance, and related contracting.
  • Candidate should be able to display good organization, problem-solving, and computer skills. Candidate should possess excellent research, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, faculty, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of the Internet and Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook software.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare timelines and project plans for special projects; coordinating activity to ensure timely completion of special projects.
  • Assist OGC in preparing, circulating and filing legal opinions, contracts, corporate and other legal documents, including the preparation and submission of government reports, annual corporate reports and related filings.
  • Assist with litigation projects, including filing of motions, redacting motions, and preparation of printed materials, as needed.
  • Assist with large OGC and institutional initiatives and special projects.
  • Assist in the maintenance of OGC software.
  • Assist with the maintenance of OGC e-filing system.
  • Track and facilitate the payment of fees to government agencies, as well as to domestic and international law firms in accordance with Center policy.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the central database of the Center’s agreements, licenses and contracts (MediTract).
  • Work with the General Counsel’s Executive Assistant to meet the needs of the OGC such as scheduling appointments, providing information to callers, taking dictation, composing and typing routine correspondence, and reading and routing incoming mail and filing of correspondence and documents in OGC filing system, ensuring proper indexing and filing of original documents. In the absence of the OGC Executive Assistant, this position will fulfill OGC Executive Assistant duties.
  • Support the Center’s Corporate Compliance Office in the monitoring of agency regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Support the Center’s Risk Management Office in the monitoring and resolution of complaints, claims and related actions.
  • Interact with large outside institutional and individual contractors, partners or affiliates effectively.
  • Prepare/edit operating procedures for the day-to-day operations of OGC and recommend changes to enhance effectiveness of these procedures.
  • Under the supervision of an attorney, research and analyze law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, treaties, constitutions, and legal codes.
  • Research and pulls relevant case law.
  • Facilitate the timely review and revision of institutional policies overseen by the OGC in coordination with the Executive Vice President/General Counsel, Corporate Compliance and Risk Management.
  • Manage board resolution meeting documents for governing documents.
  • Manage annual meeting documents for corporate entities.
  • Manage annual audit process and responses.
  • Manage annual licensure process and applications.
  • Draft, review and revise OGC correspondence.
  • Draft, review, revise, and maintain OGC responsible Institutional Policy revision and processes; responsible for proper tracking of such in Compliance360.
  • Draft, review, and revise OGC documents, including agreements, policies, meeting minutes and forms.
  • Responsible for proper onboarding of new OGC employees and legal interns, including overseeing and participating in interview process, collaboration with Human Resources, scheduling of introductory meetings, and submission of requests for creation of accounts, application access and facilities needs.
  • Prepare and maintain OGC check requests and purchase orders.
  • Responsible for performing quarterly UCC Search and communicates with Finance Department accordingly.
  • Collaborate with Payroll in the communication of administrative working hours.

Credentials and Qualifications:

Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Paralegal, Business or related field plus a minimum of eight (8) years of paralegal experience.

Requires current professional certification as a paralegal (NALA, ABA, or equivalent governing body).

* -OR- Associate’s degree with an additional two (2) year of legal assistant/paralegal experience with two additional NALA’s Advanced Certified Paralegal certifications (NALA ACP credentials) plus the eight (8) years (for a total of 10 years) experience may be considered "in lieu" of a Bachelor's degree.

  • Master’s Degree
  • NALA’s Advanced Certified Paralegal-(NALA ACP credentials)
