Summary

The Gene Targeting Core Facility was established in 2016 and supports the Moffitt/USF Research Community with the production of genetically engineered mouse models. The goal of the facility is to offer a streamlined, efficient, and affordable array of state-of-the-art transgenic approaches to create cancer mouse models for in vivo biological and preclinical studies.

Position Highlights:

  • Skill Expansion: Develop both technical and organizational skills through a combination of experimental procedures and essential lab operations.
  • Impactful Research: Be part of meaningful projects that contribute to scientific advancement in cancer research.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong motivation and enthusiasm to learn new techniques and to join a small research team.
  • Solid experience/knowledge in general cell culture techniques is essential.
  • Preferred: Expertise in embryonic stem (ES) cell culture, including isolation, maintenance, and manipulation.

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will assist with and perform a variety of molecular and cell biology techniques, including embryonic stem (ES) cell isolation, growth, expansion, and targeting.
  • Additional responsibilities include PCR and Southern blot analyses.
  • The role also involves routine laboratory tasks such as preparing media and buffers, as well as maintaining inventory and restocking lab supplies.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED required, Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Immunology or related scientific field preferred.
  • A minimum of two years in a science related field with High School Diploma.
  • One year of laboratory experience with AA/AS degree.
  • No experience required with BS/BA degree.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
