The Commercial Legal Counsel is responsible for supporting our global business on general commercial matters, but particularly focusing on commercial tenders, in-licensing, digital and data protection matters.

This position reports to the Senior Legal Counsel and is part of the Legal department located in Cambridge, UK and will be hybrid. At Abcam, our vision is to be the most influential life sciences company for researchers worldwide.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Support our global business in relation to data privacy matters, including reviewing data privacy impact assessments, negotiating, and drafting data protection agreements, and assisting with our data subject access request processes.

  • Support our global sales team, particularly in relation to e-procurement and tenders but also negotiating and drafting MSAs, custom development agreements, supply agreements, MTAs etc.

  • Support our in-licensing team by negotiating and drafting both in- and out-licenses.

  • Develop and provide training for the global business with respect to legal issues, policies, and procedures with a focus on digital and data privacy issues.

  • Provide support on compliance matters.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • A qualified solicitor with a strong academic background and has supported life sciences clients in private practice and/or worked in-house in a life sciences organization.

  • Experience of working in global cross functional teams with both senior and junior stakeholders in a matrix organization.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments.
