Natera is seeking a skilled Lab Director and/or Molecular Pathologist to oversee clinical testing operations, specifically for comprehensive genomic profiling. This position ensures that testing meets applicable regulatory standards, provides reliable patient results, and facilitates the implementation of high-quality laboratory procedures.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee and sign out oncology testing reports, predominantly on NGS platforms.
  • Interpret immunohistochemical (IHC) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) tests as needed.
  • Provide clinical and technical guidance to genetic counselors and laboratory personnel.
  • Establish and maintain standards for lab testing and analytic performance.
  • Analyze lab data and contribute to high-impact scientific publications.
  • Act as Clinical Consultant or Technical Supervisor, ensuring compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other regulatory requirements, as well as maintaining quality control, competency training, and method verification protocols.
  • Mentor and develop team members, ensuring proper succession planning and personnel management.

Qualifications

  • PhD with certification by the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics, or MD/DO with ABP board certification/eligibility in AP and Molecular Genetic Pathology.
  • Current or eligible unrestricted Medical License in California (preferred).
  • Certificate of Qualification in Genetic Testing from NYS CLEP (preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years in a CLIA-certified lab analyzing and interpreting clinical genetic/genomic data (newly graduated fellows considered).
  • Strong knowledge of CAP, CLIA, California, and New York regulations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Expertise in NGS, microarray data, and oncology/prenatal screening.
  • Familiarity with human genetics, advanced copy number detection methods, and statistical measures in genetic testing.
  • Leadership experience in a clinical lab setting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Work performed in a BSL-2 laboratory setting, involving long periods of standing or sitting.
  • May require working shifts, weekends, and occasional travel (up to 10%).
The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
