Job Summary: We are seeking a Facilities Technician this position will report to the Facilities Supervisor. This position is primarily responsible for supporting all aspects of Utility Maintenance at Novavax Gaithersburg sites. Act as SME and audit support for the Facilities department. Support development and maintenance of procedures and practices associated with the operation & maintenance of equipment & utility systems.

Essential Functions

  • Assist the maintenance team, to meet technical, budget, and schedule goals.

  • Prepare scopes of work, RFP’s, and cost estimates.

  • Partner with Facilities Logistics team in identification and management of related service providers.

  • Work with coordinator and schedulers on contracted maintenance service providers for maintenance and repair to systems and equipment. Including reviewing and approval of service reports.

  • Manage work requests, ensuring status updates and completion communications are provided to appropriate lab personnel.

  • Coordinate with Facilities, Engineering & Lab Owners on incoming equipment set up, delivery & installation.

  • Prepare or review operation, safety, and maintenance procedures to ensure accuracy.

  • Capable of evaluating, selecting, and implementation of new equipment or modifications to existing equipment.

  • Create, and maintain project & PM schedules.

  • Enforce compliance with health and safety policies and procedures based on regulatory guidance.

  • Support analysis, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of equipment in a prompt manner that will minimize production downtime.

  • Assist with Deviations and Preventive Actions (CAPA) investigations.

  • Respond, monitor and acknowledge building alarms and/or equipment/system alarms during normal business hours and off hours. (On call)

  • Troubleshoot and repair process equipment/systems as required to maintain GMP standards for optimal performance.

  • Monitor and Repair of equipment/systems; i.e.; Isolators, Autoclaves, RODI, WFI, boilers, chillers, Bio-waste System, Clean Steam System, HVAC, BMS, Compressed Gases, controlled temperature units, etc. Also, includes pump seals / rebuilds, plumbing/piping work, etc.

  • Provide technical support to other Facility Services teams, Engineering projects, and other departments.

  • Follow directions from the facilities supervisor’s and report them any events that have impact in facilities GMP operations, or R&D labs.

  • Support Facilities/Manufacturing on all process equipment/systems for Manufacturing and R&D operations. Ensure equipment/systems are operationally sound and optimal for the success of the operations. Provide mechanical expertise and mentoring to the facilities technicians.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of electricity, electrical circuits.

  • Experience with laboratory infrastructure and GMP manufacturing systems including DI Water, CDA, Vacuum, Laboratory Gas, HVAC, Isolators, Autoclaves, RODI, WFI, boilers, chillers, Bio-waste System, Clean Steam System

  • Knowledge of lab operations responsibilities, systems, and procedures.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to weld.

  • Available to travel on a minimal basis.

  • Understanding of cGMP, cGDP.

  • Working knowledge of Lockout Tag-out (LOTO) procedures.

  • Working knowledge of Facility Monitoring and Building Management Systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply various business practices, and able to quickly become adept at using the Blue Mountain RAM – CMMS.

  • Willingness to think outside of the box, while adapting best practices in a growing environment.

  • A record of safe operations and working knowledge of safety standards for plant environments.



Education, Experience, Licenses & Certifications

  • A minimum of two years of maintenance experience within a Pharma/Biotech organization, or an equivalent combination of trade school education and experience.

The annual base salary (or hourly wage) for this position falls within the range of $26.25 - $32.80. However, the actual base pay offered may vary based on several individualized factors, such as market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
