Master Thesis project: One-click approval of chromatographic analysis
Chromatography is the workhorse for analysis of pharmaceutical products ensuring the correct content, purity and quality of the product. The chromatographic analysis must be approved before release of any pharmaceutical product. Approval implies chromatographic profiles to be evaluated and compared against model chromatograms ensuring that the quality is acceptable.
Current state is manual and visual comparison with hard copy model chromatograms which is very time consuming. A digital comparison process will be faster and more robust, as the comparison is not based on subjective choices.
One challenge with digital comparison of two chromatograms is the small variations in retention time (x-axis), across different data set.
The purpose of this project is first to develop an algorithm that can handle these variations, robustly align chromatograms, and identify any significant differences. Secondly, to design an interface enabling users in the laboratory to use the algorithm.
Project scope:
• Development of an algorithm for fast and robust identification of differences between sampled and model chromatogram. This includes handling of experimental variations, alignment, and identification of any significant differences (atypical chromatography).
• Mathematical definition of atypical chromatography
• Design an interface enabling users in the laboratory to use the algorithm.

Desired skills/competencies:
• Familiarity with data analysis
• Solid programming skills and interest in Python
• Flair for user experience (UX) intuitive graphical interface and efficient data visualization
• Insight into chemical/chromatographic analysis and statistics is advantageous, but not required

How to apply
Please send your application no later than 25 October 2024. Your CV is not required, and the application must not exceed more than ½ page and must contain:
• A short description of who you are as a person
• How you would solve the project
• Your motivation to write your thesis on an analytical topic
• Project start date and the possibility of combining with a pre-project
