The position
As Director of Corporate Strategy, you will be responsible for independently leading corporate-level strategies and business assignments focused on identifying and assessing attractive future growth opportunities and potential risks to the business. You will provide balanced, objective, enterprise level advice to the company at the highest level and be part of defining the strategic options that will determine our future direction.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Monitor internal and external signals, anticipate trends and apply situational interpretations to quickly identify future opportunities and understand potential challenges
- Identify, leverage and analyse data from various sources to form data-driven positions. The Director of Corporate Strategy will be able to work flexibly within the organisation to ensure resources, organisational development and investments are aligned to strategic priorities and will inspire the organisation to achieve strategic goals
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across the value chain to gain insights into the business and will become a trusted partner to leadership and the line of business
- Outstanding communication skills to discuss complex concepts in clear and simple terms and must be capable of challenging, interacting and negotiating with upper management on strategic projects
Succeeding in this position requires a deep understanding of Novo Nordisk’s business, strategies, performance and future outlook. While this position does not have direct people management responsibilities, leadership through influence and developing followership and buy-in to projects is critical. The position will provide many opportunities for informal leadership through project working groups, mentoring and sparring, and you will be involved in developing the Corporate Strategy team and talent within the team.
Qualifications
To be a competitive candidate, you should have:
- Educational background within business, economics, life sciences, engineering or similar, preferably combined with an MBA degree
- Solid pharma business understanding combined with 7+ years of relevant experience in working with strategy development, either from within the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, venture/investment setting or top tier consultancy firm with engagements within the pharma industry
- Strategic mindset, strong analytical and stakeholder management skills, and you have successfully led large strategic projects in complex business areas on behalf of senior management
- Excellent communication skills, ability to set the agenda and maintain an overview under pressure in a multifaceted and busy organisation are required
You will interact with a with a multitude of functions across the organisation and be in regular contact with senior management, thus you should be capable of, and comfortable with, working and interacting at all organisational levels.
You thrive in a performance- and output driven environment, and you approach challenges with a positive, solution-focused approach even when the pressure is high. You are ambitious, able to distil high-impact focus areas, consider relevant implications and provide clear recommendations and high quality results at pace.
You are a team player, but also can work independently. You have excellent verbal, written and graphical communication skills, and mastery of the English language. You are success-oriented and change ready, you are professional and work with integrity and an enterprise mindset.
About the department
Corporate Strategy is part of the Finance, Legal and Global Services function at Novo Nordisk and is focused on driving long-term growth for Novo Nordisk by bringing innovative medicines to patients throughout the world, and ensuring we are a sustainable business. The department is responsible for the development of Novo Nordisk’s corporate strategy and managing a portfolio of high priority strategic initiatives sponsored by the CEO and executive management team. You will join a dedicated and energetic team of colleagues that have a high level of responsibility, exposure and focus from top management, located in Bagsværd, Denmark.
